How do I turn on/turn off IM Catcher?
IM Catcher is turned on by default.
To turn off IM Catcher
Note: To turn on IM Catcher, check the box next to Use the IM Catcher™ organizer to capture IMs from unknown senders.5. Click Save.
6. Click X on the upper right of the Buddy List Setup window to close the window.
If you receive an Instant Message (IM) from an Internet user (someone who is using the AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) service) who is not listed on your Buddy List, the IM Catcher captures the message and offers you the option to open, block, or ignore the IM. This protects you from Spam IMs (SPIM) and potentially dangerous or offensive IMs.
Click the message in IM Catcher to highlight it, and then click Open IM to accept the message. All subsequent messages from that screen name will arrive as normal messages during that online session and will not go through IM Catcher.
If you're not sure who sent you an IM, click Buddy Info for the sender's AOL profile.
You can block a user from sending you IMs by clicking Block. All IMs from that user will be blocked until you unblock the user. Blocking is an effective way to stay protected from IM Spam.
If you don't want to receive an IM from someone at the time that they send it but may want to IM them later, click Ignore. The next time you receive an IM from that sender, the message will again go to IM Catcher. You can use the ignore feature when you are busy or unable to talk but do not want to block someone from messaging you.
When you do not want to receive any IMs that IM Catcher has listed, click Ignore All. All the IMs in IM Catcher will be blocked until the senders IM you again.
IM Catcher sorts incoming IMs into two categories. First, IM Catcher lists IMs in a category called People I Know. This category lists IMs from anyone on your Buddy List or in your AOL Address Book. The second category called Unknown Senders includes anyone who is not listed on your Buddy List or in your AOL Address Book.
When you set an Away Message, IM Catcher intercepts all your Instant Messages, even those sent by your buddies who are on your Buddy List. When the message arrives, IM Catcher captures it and sends you a notification. To set an Away Message, on your Buddy List window, click Away Message, and then select the message of your choice.
The Most Recent box located above the list of incoming IMs on your IM Catcher tells you who sent you the last IM. It also shows you the first few words of that IM.
