Change my default Internet software

You can set the AOL software or another program as the default for Web page browsing, email, and newsgroups.

Change Your Default Internet Software

It is easy to change your Internet software settings.

To change your default Internet software for Web pages, email, or newsgroups:
1. Click the Start button, click Programs or All Programs, then click Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options....
3. Click the Programs tab.
4. In the Internet Programs section, change your default for Web pages, email and newsgroups individually.

  • Click the email: or Mail drop-down menu to open it, choose your preferred email application/ ISP from the list, then click it.
  • Click the Newsgroups: or News drop-down menu to open it, choose your preferred newsgroup application/ISP from the list, then click it.
  • To set the Web browser default, click the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser to place a check mark in it, or to clear it.

5. Click the OK button.

Note: If you have changed your default application for Web pages, you will also need to restart Microsoft Internet Explorer. When you are asked if you would like to make Internet Explorer your default browser, click the Yes button.

Set the AOL Software as Your Preferred Application

Setting the AOL software as your preferred application will cause the AOL software to launch and try to connect any time a program requests Internet access.

To set the AOL software as your preferred application for Web browsing and reading email:
1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Settings icon.
2. On the Index tab, click the AOL as Default link.
3. Click the OK button.
