Tips to use Custom Sender and Custom Word lists

Using the Custom Sender and Custom Word Lists included with AOL Mail and Spam Controls will help you keep unwanted mail out of your inbox. Given below are some tips for using both the lists.

Custom Sender List tips

  • Selecting Allow only the senders and domains listed below on your Custom Sender List will allow you to receive mail only from the individuals that you've identified.
  • Selecting Block all senders and domains listed below will block mails coming from the domains and email addresses that you have listed.
  • To block or allow AOL members, enter their screen names only.
  • For Internet email addresses, enter the full email address (e.g., name@compuserve.com).
  • You can block entire domains by entering a domain name such as compuserve.com. (A domain is portion of an email address that comes after the @ sign).
  • Blocked mail will be sent to your Spam folder only if you've selected Delivered to the Spam Folder on the Mail Controls screen.

Custom Word List tips

  • Mail containing words in this list will be moved to the s pam folder.
  • Words can appear in the subject or body of the message.
  • Mail from senders in your Address Book and Buddy List will always be delivered to your main mailbox.
  • You can use wildcards in this list. Type the asterisk sign (*) next to a word to allow partial matches to be moved to the Spam folder. For example, if you type "*berry," mail containing words such as "strawberry" and "cranberry" will be moved to the Spam folder.
