AOL Parental Controls

Important: AOL Screen Name is now known as AOL Username. You may still see Screen Name at some places as we are in the process of changing it across AOL. Please bear with us.

The AOL Parental Controls software download is required to enforce your child's existing Parental Controls settings, monitor your child's Internet activity, and provide you with the flexibility to decide which Internet sites and programs your child can use on a specific computer.

Go to http://parentalcontrols.aol.com to download and install the software. Please install the software on each computer that your child will be using to access the Internet.

Install AOL Parental Controls

It's easy; it's quick; and there is no additional cost.

Notes:

• Please sign on with your Adult Username to change any preferences on AOL Parental Controls
• All users must sign-in to AOL Parental Controls before going online. Requiring password access to Internet-related programs reduces the risk of children encountering potential threats or inappropriate websites while online.

To install AOL Parental Controls using the AOL software:
1. Sign in to the AOL service.
2. Go to AOL Keyword: Parental Controls.
3. If you are prompted to verify your access, sign in again using your master Username.
4. If you are using the AOL 9.0 or lower version, click the AOL Parental Controls button.
5. Click the Download button.
6. Click the Open or Run button.
7. When prompted, close all AOL applications, then click the OK button.

Note: We recommend that you close all applications.

8. Click the Restart button if you are prompted to restart your computer.

To install AOL Parental Controls on the Web:
1. Go to http://parentalcontrols.aol.com.
2. For new users, follow the steps to sign-up for parent and child accounts.
3. After completing the steps to create your parent and child accounts, download the AOL Parental Controls software.

1. Click the Download Now button.
2. Click the Open or Run button.
3. When prompted, close all AOL applications, then click the OK button.
4. Click the Restart button if you are prompted to restart your computer.
   

Note: We recommend that you save any open work and close all applications before you continue with the installation.

1. Click the Get It Now button on the main Parental Controls page
2. Click the Download Now button.
3. Click the Open or Run button.
4. When prompted, close all AOL applications, then click the OK button.
5. Click the Restart button if you are prompted to restart your computer.
