Clear cookies, cache, and history on AOL 9.0 and higher versions

As you browse through the Web, information about the sites you visit is stored on your computer to improve your browsing experience. You can erase this information by clearing the footprints stored in the AOL® software. Clearing the footprints will also help you keep your computer running more efficiently.

To clear the footprints, do the following:
1. Go to AOL® Keyword: Browser Settings. This keyword can be accessed only within the AOL software.

Note: You can also click the Settings icon on the AOL® toolbar, and then click the Internet [Web] Options link.

2. Click the Clear My Footprints tab.
3. Click Select Footprints to Clear.
4. Check the boxes next to the items you want to clear. You can choose to clear any or all of the following files from your computer:
  • Browsing History - This is a list of recently visited Web pages. It does not include the Web sites browsed outside of the AOL software.
  • Clear Search History - This is a list of the recent searches performed on the Web.
  • Cookies - These are small files stored on your computer. Web sites use these files to track your visits.
  • Browser Cache - These files, also referred to as Temporary Internet Files, are images and graphics stored on your computer. These files accelerate the speed taken to load Web pages. In addition, the AOL TopSpeed® cache, which contains images and graphics from the AOL® service, is also cleared.
  • Blocked Pop-up List - This contains the list of pop-up windows that have been blocked.
6. Click Clear Selected Footprints.
7. Click Close.
8. Click Save.

Note: Clicking Clear Selected Footprints will not affect any personalization features, such as My Routines, that you have selected.
