AOL Toolbar settings

It's easy to configure the AOL Toolbar software to suit your needs. The AOL Toolbar settings allow you to choose your toolbar's layout, search and pop-up preferences, add options, and clear your browsing footprints.

To use your AOL Toolbar settings

1. From your browser window, on the AOL Toolbar, click the Settings icon.

2. Click Toolbar Options.

3. Adjust your settings.

Toolbar Configuration

You determine which buttons are displayed on your AOL Toolbar.

To add buttons to your AOL Toolbar from Internet Explorer:

1. Click the Settings icon.

2. Click Add More Buttons

3. From the Toolbar Button Gallery, click the buttons you'd like to add.

To add buttons to your AOL Toolbar from Firefox:

1. Click the Settings icon.

2. Click Toolbar Options.

3. Click the Toolbar Buttons tab.

4. Click Add More Buttons.

5. Click the buttons you'd like to add.

Button Appearance

You decide whether you want to see text only, icons only, or text and icons on your AOL Toolbar. You can select one of these options by right-clicking on the button and making your selection from the drop-down menu.

Search Options

Select the type of search you want to conduct: web pages, images or videos.

1. Type what you're searching for into the Toolbar search box.

2. Click the small down arrow next to the magnifying glass.

3. Select the type of search you'd like to conduct.

 4. Click SEARCH.

Privacy Options

From the Internet Explorer AOL Toolbar, you can clear your Browsing History, Cookies, Browser Cache, Blocked Pop-up List, and Recent Searches. These options are not available on the Firefox AOL Toolbar. As you browse the web, information about where you have been is kept on your computer to improve your browsing experience. You can choose to clear any or all of the following files from your computer:

• Browsing History: This is a list of recently visited web pages.
• Cookies: These are small files kept on your computer that websites use to track your visits.
• Browser Cache: These files, also referred to as Temporary Internet Files, are images and graphics stored on your computer that accelerate the speed it takes to load web pages. In addition, the AOL TopSpeed cache, which contains images and graphics from the AOL service, is also cleared.
• Blocked Pop-up list: This contains the list of Pop-up windows that have been blocked.
• Recent Searches: This is the list of search terms typed into the AOL Toolbar's Search box.

To clear your private data:

1. Click the Settings icon.

2. Click Toolbar Options.

3. Click the Privacy tab.

4. Check the privacy options that you'd like to clear by clicking in the box next to them.

5. Click Clear All Checked Items.

6. Click Save.
