How do I use the Parental Controls IM Safety List for children?

Important: AOL Screen Name is now known as AOL Username. You may still see Screen Name at some places as we are in the process of changing it across AOL. Please bear with us.

The IM Safety List is designed to provide a safer online experience for kids and teens. The IM Safety List enables you, as a parent, to control with whom your child can send and receive IMs. You, as a parent and owner of an Adult Username, can use the IM Safety List to block IMs sent to your child from people you don't know. Only those people who are part of the IM Safety List, which is created and maintained by you, will be able to IM your child. These controls are only enabled for use with AOL Instant Messenger (AIM).

Note: Before creating a Kid Only (12 & under) account, an adult with a Free AOL email address or a non-AOL email address must verify that he/she is 18 years or older through our age verification process.
