Turn off/turn on the Mobile Device icon showing on my Buddy List

If you do not want the Mobile Device icon to display next to your name on your buddy's Buddy List, you can disable it using your personal computer. This task cannot be accomplished using your mobile phone.

You can stop the Mobile Device icon from displaying on the Buddy List on both the AOL software and the AIM software.

To disable the mobile device icon using the AOL software
1. Sign on to the AOL service.
2. Click the IM button on the toolbar to open the Buddy List window, and then click Setup.
3. At the bottom of the Buddy List Setup window, click the IM Settings link.

Note: If you are using AOL 8.0 Plus, on the Buddy List Setup window, click the Set Preferences link.

4. Click the General Buddy tab.
5. Uncheck the box next to Allow other members to see that I am using a mobile device, and then click Save.

Note: If you want the mobile device icon to show up on the Buddy List, check the box.

6. Click X on the upper right of the Buddy List Setup window to close it.

To disable the mobile device icon using the AIM software
1. Sign on to the AIM software.
2. Click the Menu button, and then click Privacy.
3. Scroll all the way down. In the Allow others to see section, uncheck the box next to I am using a mobile device (does not apply to IM Forwarding).

Note: If you want the mobile device icon to show up on the Buddy List, check the box.

5. Click Save.
