Unable to download AOL TOD updates |
AOL AOL Tools on Demand (TODs) are essential updates to the AOL Desktop Software. The TOD updates are small and should take only a few moments to install. If the TOD update does not complete and freezes while downloading, try the solutions given below to resolve the issue. After trying the first solution, check whether you are able to download the TOD update. If the issue persists, try the next solution until the problem is fixed. Note: You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps. Information you needYou will need to know the version of the Microsoft Windows operating system installed on your computer. You'll also need to know the version of AOL Connectivity Service (ACS) that your AOL Desktop Software (AOL Desktop 9.0 or higher) uses to connect to the internet. You can find this information by following the instructions given in the help articles mentioned below:
Note: If you are using AOL 9.0 VR or higher versions of the AOL Desktop Software, you have ACS 4 installed on your computer. SolutionsDelete the TOD FolderThe TOD folder may be damaged and may cause the AOL Desktop Software to download the TOD updates to correct the problem. Deleting the TOD folder and letting AOL rebuild the folder may help resolve the issue. To delete the TOD folder 1. Open AOL System Information. Note: If you are unable to open AOL System Information, go to our help article Open Data Folder to find out how to manually open the Data Folder. When finished, continue from Step 3.
IMPORTANT: If AOL System Information window does not appear, check the Windows taskbar for a flashing tab. If you see a flashing tab, click it. The User Account Control window will appear. Click Yes. Now, the AOL System Information window will appear.
2. Open Data Folder.
3. Right-click the TOD folder, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes.
5. Close all open windows, and then restart the AOL Desktop Software. Note: The next time you sign off from the AOL service, you'll receive the TOD updates. Please allow the updates to download completely to avoid any further issues. Run Quick RestoreThe Quick Restore feature allows you to reset the AOL Desktop Software to the default state by deleting all the updates downloaded in the past. It can help resolve issues that you may have with the AOL Desktop Software without having to reinstall the software. Once Quick Restore is completed, you will receive a series of AOL TOD updates. Please allow the updates to download completely to avoid any further issues.

Uninstall and reinstall AOL Desktop SoftwareIf the issue persists, we recommend that you uninstall and reinstall the AOL Desktop Software. Uninstalling the AOL Desktop Software removes all damaged and non-repairable files, and reinstalling the software creates new, error-free files.
