Set up connection for AOL 7.0 and AOL 6.0

Important: We provide limited support for older versions of the AOL software, such as AOL 7.0 and AOL 6.0. If you are still using any of these older versions, we suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of the AOL software by going to http://daol.aol.com/software.

After installing AOL 7.0 or 6.0, you need to set up your connection when trying to sign in for the first time. The AOL software will walk you through this process after the installation. However, you can also set up your connection manually.

How to

Set up my connection on AOL 7.0 or AOL 6.0 if I'm using a dial-up modem

To set up your connection when launching AOL 7.0 or AOL 6.0 for the first time:

1. Launch the AOL software by double-clicking the AOL icon.

2. Click Next click here.

3. Select modem as your connection device, and then click Next click here.

4. In the Area Code box, type your area code, and then click Next.

5. Choose 2 or 3 local access phone numbers, and then click Next.

6. Choose the dialing options that apply to you, check the Automatically reconnect me and ignore interruptions when using this location box, and then click Next click here. Your connection has been set up, and you can sign on to the AOL service using your AOL screen name and password.

WARNING: You will incur charges on your phone bill if you choose an AOL access phone number that is a long-distance call or not covered by your local calling plan. Please check with your local phone company to determine whether the access phone numbers you select are local for your plan. Remember that members on certain plans may be charged an hourly rate for dial-up connections. See AOL Keyword: My Account for your price details.

Set up my connection on AOL 7.0 or AOL 6.0 if I'm using a broadband modem

1. On the AOL Sign On screen, click Setup.

2. Click Expert Setup.

3. Click the Devices (modems, etc.) tab.

4. Click Expert Add.

5. Click the Type drop-down menu to open it, choose TCP/IP: LAN or ISP (Internet Service Provider), and then click Next.

6. Click Next again to sign on to the AOL service.
