What are the minimum system requirements for Windows 7?

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what you need:

  • 1 Gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 Gigabyte (GB) RAM (for 32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (for 64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (for 32-bit) or 20 GB (for 64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver


Is my current computer compatible with Windows 7?

An easy way to check if your computer can handle Windows 7 is to use Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor, found at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor. The Upgrade Advisor will scan your computer to make sure you're able to run Windows 7 without any problems.


Will my AOL Desktop Software be available if I upgrade to Windows 7?

Windows Vista

If you're running Windows Vista, you can simply perform an upgrade (in-place upgrade). An in-place upgrade keeps your files, settings and programs intact when the upgrade process completes.

Note: The AOL 9.0 VR, AOL 9.5, AOL 9.6 and AOL Desktop v10.1 versions of the AOL Desktop Software are fully compatible with Windows 7. If you upgrade to the latest version of AOL, make sure you upgrade from the version of the AOL Desktop Software that was last installed on your computer.

Windows XP

If you're currently running Windows XP, you'll need to perform a full install (custom install) of Windows 7. users will be required to perform a full install (custom install) of the new operating system.
