How do I uninstall and reinstall the AOL 9.1 software?

Reinstalling the AOL software helps in repairing damaged files. Please back up your personal files to ensure that you don't lose any personal information while uninstalling and reinstalling the AOL software.

Important: If you have saved your AOL password on the AOL software, ensure that you remember your password before you perform the steps given below as uninstalling and reinstalling the AOL software will delete your saved password. If you don’t remember your password, we recommend that you change your password before proceeding any further. You will also need to remember the answer to your Account Security Question (ASQ) to be able to change your password. You can change your ASQ if you don’t remember the answer to it. Uninstall the AOL software

If you completely uninstall the AOL software, all your screen names and the settings associated with the screen names will be removed. Please back up your personal files to make sure that you don't lose any personal information.

To uninstall the AOL software using AOL Uninstaller in Windows® Vista®
1. Close the AOL software.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click the Programs icon, and then click the Programs and Features link.

Note: If you are using Classic View, double-click the Programs and Features icon.

4. Click AOL Uninstaller (Choose which Products to Remove), and then click the Uninstall/Change tab.
5. When prompted by the User Account Control message, click Continue.
6. Click Yes.
7. Select the check box next to AOL 9.1, and then click Uninstall. If there are multiple copies of the AOL software, select all the copies of the software, and then click Uninstall.

Note: Your Filing Cabinet files will automatically be stored on the desktop in the Saved on AOL folder.

8. Click Yes.
9. If prompted, click Restart to restart your computer.
10. Check our online help article to reinstall the AOL software.

To uninstall the AOL software using AOL Uninstaller in Windows XP/2000
1. Close the AOL software.
2. Open Windows Control Panel.

  • If you are using Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  • If you are using Windows 2000, click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs or Add/Remove Programs icon.
4. Click AOL Uninstaller (Choose which Products to Remove), and then click Change/Remove.
5. Click Yes.
6. Select the check box next to AOL 9.1, and then click Uninstall. If there are multiple copies of the AOL software, select all the copies of the software, and then click Uninstall.

7. Click Yes.
