How do I change the AIM sound settings?

At the top of your Buddy List window, click Options or Menu (depending on which version of AIM 7 you're using) and then click Settings. Click Sounds to select your sound preferences and click Save when you're finished.

Set General Sounds:


1. Are you disturbed by the sound that is played every time you sign in to AIM? Under When I sign in to AIM, select Do not play any sound to sign in to AIM silently.


2. Select the sound that you want played every time you sign in to AIM by clicking Play this sound. Click Browse and then choose the file you'd like to hear. The file should be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


3. If you don't want to hear sounds every time you sign out of AIM, under When I sign out of AIM, select Do not play any sound.


4. Customize the sound you want to play when signing out of AIM. Click Play this sound, and then click Browse. Select the file of your choice. The file should be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


5. If you don't want AIM to play a sound when you update your status message, you can fix that. Select Do not play any sound under When I update my status message.


6. Play the sound of your choice every time you update your status message. Click Play this sound, and then click Browse to select the sound you want to play. The sound file needs to be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


7. You don't want to hear your buddy sounds when you're away from your computer? Check Disable sound when I am away.



Set IM & Chat Sounds:


1. Are you disturbed by the sound that is played every time you receive an IM? Under When I receive an IM, select Do not play any sound to receive IMs silently.


2. Do you want to listen to the sounds your buddies have set up when you receive their IMs? Select Play the Expressions Buddy Sound of any user and enjoy your buddies' sounds.


3. You can select a sound that you want to play every time you receive an IM. Click the Play this sound, click Browse, and then choose the file of your choice. The file should be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


4. You don't want to hear sounds every time you send an IM? Under When I send an IM, select Do not play any sound to send IMs in peace.


5. Do you want to play a sound when sending IMs? Select Play my Expressions Buddy Sound.


6. You can customize the sound you want to play when sending IMs to your buddies. Click Play this sound, and then click Browse. Select the file of your choice. The file should be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


7. Do you want the sounds, which you've set, to play only on the first IM you receive or send? Check Play sound only on the first message that I send and receive.



Set Buddy List Sounds:


1. Do you wish you could turn off the sound played every time your buddies sign on? Under When buddies Sign In, click Do not play any sound .


2. Do you want to hear your buddies' sound settings when they sign on? Click Play the Expressions Buddy Sound of any user.


3. You can choose to play the sound of your choice when a buddy signs on. Click Play this sound, click Browse, and then select the file of your choice. The file should be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


4. You don't want buddy sounds to be played every time your buddies sign out? Under When buddies Sign Out, click Do not play any sound.


5. Click Play the Expressions Buddy Sound of any user to hear the sounds your Buddy selected.


6. You can select the sound you want to play when your buddies sign out. Click Play this sound, and then click Browse to select the sound file of your choice. The file should be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.



Set Audio and Video IM Sounds:


1. You don't want buddy sounds to be played when you receive a talk request or call alert? Under When receiving a Talk request or Call Alert, click Do not play any sound.


2. Do you want to be alerted of a talk request or call alert? Click Play this sound, and then click Browse to select the sound you want to play. The sound file needs to be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


3. Disconnect from a talk or call session without a sound. Under When disconnecting from a Talk or Call session, click Do not play any sound.


4. Play the sound of your choice every time you disconnect from a talk or call session. Click Play this sound, and then click Browse to select the sound you want to play. The sound file needs to be .wav or .mp3 format. Click Preview to listen to the selected sound.


5. Do you want an uninterrupted talk or video session? Select Disable other AIM sounds when in a Talk or Video session.
