About the AOL Menu Bar

The menu bar starts in the upper left of the America Online window and runs to the right. The menu bar includes the File, Edit, Print, Window, Sign On or Sign Off, and Help menus.

Note: Some of the features in the menu bar item may require you to sign on to the AOL® service before they are available.

File Menu

When you click the File menu, you can choose from the following 13 items:

  • New: Clicking this item will open a new Notepad window.
  • Open...: Clicking this item will allow you to navigate to different folders to open files saved on your computer.
  • Open Picture Finder...: Clicking this item will allow you to navigate to different folders to find and open image files saved on your computer.
  • Open CD/Media Player: Clicking this item will open an AOL Media Player window and play a CD inserted in your CD drive.
  • Save: Clicking this item will save the data in the current window to your computer.
  • Save As...: Clicking this item will save the data in the current window to your computer in a folder and file that you choose.
  • Print: Clicking this item will print what is open on the current window.
  • Print Setup...: Clicking this item will allow you to choose your printing preferences.
  • Filing Cabinet: Clicking this item will open your Filing Cabinet.
  • Save to Filing Cabinet: Clicking this item will allow you to save an open e-mail to your Filing Cabinet.
  • Download Manager: Clicking this item will open the Download Manager window.
  • Log Manager: Clicking this item will open the Log Manager window.
  • Exit: Clicking this item will close the AOL® software.

Edit Menu

When you click the Edit menu, you can choose from the following 10 items:

  • Undo: Clicking this item will open a new Notepad window.
  • Cut: Clicking this item will make a copy of the currently selected data and delete the selected data if you are in an editable document.
  • Copy: Clicking this item will make a copy of the currently selected data.
  • Paste: Clicking this item will copy any saved data.
  • Select All: Clicking this item will select everything in the current window.
  • Capture Picture: Clicking this item will allow you to take a picture if you have a Webcam attached to your computer.
  • Spell Check: Clicking this item will spell check the current document.
  • Dictionary: Clicking this item will open AOL® Keyword: Dictionary.
  • Thesaurus: Clicking this item will open AOL Keyword: Thesaurus.
  • Find in Top Window...: Clicking this item will open Find window where you can enter the text you want to search for in the current window.

Print Menu

When you click the Print menu, you can choose from the following 5 items:

  • Print: Clicking this item will print what is open on the current window.
  • Print Setup...: Clicking this item will allow you to choose your printing preferences.
  • Print Central: Clicking this item will open AOL® Print Central.
  • Printer Supplies: Clicking this item will open an AOL® Shopping Website.
  • Printer Services: Clicking this item will open AOL Keyword: Printers.

Window Menu

When you click the Window menu, you can choose from the following 8 items:

  • Cascade: Clicking this item will cause all open windows to be stacked on top of each other with a slight offset so you can read the titles of the windows.
  • Tile: Clicking this item will cause all open windows to be tiled across the America Online window so there is no overlap.
  • Arrange Minimized Windows: Clicking this item will arrange any minimized windows allow the bottom of the America Online window.
  • Close All Except Front: Clicking this item will close all the open windows except the current one.
  • Add Top Window to Favorite Places: Clicking this item will add a link for the current window to your Favorite Places.
  • Remember Window Size Only: Clicking this item will save the size settings for the currently selected window.
  • Remember Window Size and Position: Clicking this item will save the size and position settings for the currently selected window.
  • Forget Window Size and Position: Clicking this item will restore the default size and position settings for any windows.

Note: If you have one or more windows open inside of the AOL software, they will be listed in the Windows menu as well.

Sign On or Sign Off Menu

This menu will check whether you are signed on with the AOL software or not. If you are not signed on it will display Sign On. If you are online, it will display Sign Off.

The Sign On menu has only one item. Sign On Screen : Clicking this item will open the Sign On window.

When you click the Sign Off menu, you can choose from the following 2 items:

  • Switch Screen Name: Clicking this item will open a new window where you can select and switch to another screen name on your AOL® account.
  • Sign Off: Clicking this item will disconnect you from the AOL service.

Help Menu

When you click the Help menu, you can choose from the following 3 items:

  • AOL Help: Clicking this item will open the AOL Help window if you are not signed on or AOL Keyword: Help if you are online.
  • What's New in AOL 7.0: Clicking this item will open an inform area listing the features of AOL 7.0.
  • About America Online: Clicking this item will open the About AOL window that include information about the specific version of the AOL software you are using.
