Copy or transfer your Favorite Places

You can copy or transfer your Favorite Places to another Username, another computer or another service by following the steps given below.

Transfer your Favorite Places to another Username

Click the link that corresponds to the version of the AOL Desktop Software that you are using to know how to transfer your Favorite Places to another Username.

To transfer your Favorite Places to another Username using AOL 9.0 or higher:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click Favorites.

2. Click Manage.

3. Click Save My Favorite Places as a Favorites File on my Computer.

4. Click Save.

5. Switch to the Username to which you want to copy your Favorite Places.

6. On the AOL toolbar, click Favorites.

7. Click Manage.

8. Select one of the following:

  • Replace My Favorite Places with a Favorites File: Use this option to overwrite your current list of Favorite Places.
  • Append a Favorites File to My Favorite Places: Use this option to supplement your existing list with the Favorites from your other Username.

9. Navigate to the Favorites file that you saved, click the file to highlight it, and then click Open. If you choose to replace your Favorite Places with the new file, you'll need to click OK twice.

10. Close the Favorite Places window.

Note: You can share your list of Favorite Places with friends who use AOL 9.0 by mailing them your saved Favorites file (Favorite Places.pfc) and having them follow Steps 6 through 10.

To transfer all your Favorite Places to another screen name using AOL 8.0:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click My Favorites.

2. Click Save/Replace.

3. Select Save My Favorite Places as a Favorites File on my Computer, and then click OK.

4. Click Save.

5. Switch to the Username to which you want to copy your Favorite Places.

6. On the AOL toolbar, click My Favorites.

7. Click Save/Replace.

8. Select one of the following:

  • Replace My Favorite Places with a Favorites File: Use this option to overwrite your current list of Favorite Places.
  • Append a Favorites File to My Favorite Places: Use this option to supplement your existing list with the Favorites from your other screen name.

9. Click OK.

10. Navigate to the Favorites file that you saved, click the file to highlight it, and then click Open.

11. Close the Favorites window.

Note: You can share your list of Favorite Places with friends who use AOL 8.0 by mailing them your saved Favorites file and having them follow Steps 6 through 10.

To transfer your Favorite Places to another Username using AOL 7.0 or AOL 6.0:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click My Favorites or Favorite Places.

2. In the Favorite Places window, click Save/Replace.

3. Select the Save the Favorite Places for your current screen name option, and then click OK.

4. Click Save.

5. Switch to the Username to which you want to copy your Favorite Places.

6. On the AOL toolbar, click My Favorites or Favorite Places.

7. Click Save/Replace.

8. Select the Replace the Favorite Places for your current screen name option, and then click OK.

9. In the Select File to Restore window, select the Favorite Places.pfc file, and then click Open.

10. Close the Favorites window.


Make a backup copy of your Favorite Places

You can make a copy of your Favorite Places on your computer, CD, or any other form of removable storage such as a USB drive. Choose the version of AOL Desktop installed on your computer for directions.

To make a backup copy of your Favorite Places in AOL 9.0 or higher:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click Favorites.

2. Click Manage.

3. Select Save My Favorite Places as a Favorites File on my Computer.

4. Navigate to the place where you wish to save the file, and then click Save.

5. Close the Favorites window.

To make a backup copy of your Favorite Places in AOL 8.0:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click My Favorites.

2. In the Favorite Places window, click Save/Replace.

3. Select Save My Favorite Places as a Favorites File on my Computer, and then click OK.

4. Navigate to the place where you wish to save the Favorites file, and then click Save.

5. Close the Favorites window.

To make a backup copy of your Favorite Places in AOL 7.0 or AOL 6.0:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click My Favorites or Favorite Places.

2. In the Favorite Places window, click Save/Replace.

3. Select the Save the Favorite Places for your current screen name option, and then click OK.

4. Navigate to the place where you wish to save the Favorites file, and then click Save.

5. Close the Favorites window.


Transfer your Favorite Places to another program

If you wish to copy hyperlinks or web addresses from your AOL Favorite Places and transfer them to another program, you can use the copy and paste option.

To copy the hyperlinks from your AOL Favorite Places to another program:

1. Sign in to AOL Desktop, click Favorites, and then click Favorite Places to launch the Favorite Places window.

Note: For AOL 9.0 or higher, click Favorites.

2. Right-click an entry, and then select Edit.

3. Highlight the website address in the Enter the Internet Address box, right-click, and then select Copy.

4. Open the destination program, right-click the location where you would like to paste the address, and then click Paste.

5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for each of the Favorites you wish to transfer.

6. Close the Favorites window.
