Scan your computer using McAfee Internet Security Suite - Special edition from AOL

For instructions on how to scan your computer using McAfee, click on the version of McAfee you currently have installed on your computer. If you've installed McAfee after March 19, 2012 you are using version 11.0.

The instructions given below are for McAfee Internet Security Suite - Special edition from AOL version 11.0.

McAfee Internet Security Suite – Special Edition from AOL version 11.0 offers three different ways to scan your computer for malicious activity.

  • Quick Scan: If you wish to scan for virus, spyware, or other threats in the most vulnerable areas of your computer, click the Run a Quick Scan link.
  • Full Scan: If you wish to scan for virus, spyware, or other threats that exist anywhere in the computer, click the Run a Full Scan link.
  • Custom Scan: If you wish to scan for virus, spyware, or other threats in a specific drive or folder, use the custom scan.

To start scanning your computer:

1. On the Windows taskbar, next to the clock, right-click the McAfee (M) icon, select Run a scan, and any of the following options:

  • Quick
  • Full
  • Custom

Or, open McAfee and click Real-Time Scanning: On, then click Scan your PC.

2. If you choose the Quick or Full option, the scan will begin automatically. The instructions given below are applicable when you choose Custom or Run a custom scan.

3. Under Customize Your Scan, on the left side, choose the folders you would like to scan.

4. Under Customize Your Scan, on the right side, choose the desired scan options.

5. Under Excluded Files and Folders, when you click Add file your My Documents window will open. You can then select specific files you’d like to exclude from scanning by clicking on the file and clicking Open.

6. Under Excluded Files and Folders, when you click Add folder a Browse For Folder window will open. You can then select specific folders you’d like to exclude from scanning by clicking on the folder and clicking OK.

Note: If you’ve added a file or folder you would rather not exclude from the scan, select the file, click Remove and click Yes.

7. Once you’ve customized your scan, click Scan.
