Run ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter on my hard drive in Windows 2000/Me/98

1. Double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop.

2. Right-click the C drive and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab.

Click the appropriate link given below depending on whether you would like to run ScanDisk or Disk Defragmenter.

4. Under Error-checking or Error-checking status, click Check Now.

5. Select the check boxes next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors and then click Start. ScanDisk will begin.

Note: In Windows Me/98, highlight the drive that you wish to scan (normally C:), select Thorough, select the Automatically fix errors box and then click Start. ScanDisk will begin.

Run Disk Defragmenter

4. Under Defragmentation or Defragmentation Status, click Defragment Now. Defragmentation will begin.

Note: In Windows 2000, click on the drive that you wish to defragment and then click Defragment. Defragmentation will begin.
