About AIM Service Instant Message (IM) Forwarding

IM Forwarding is an easy way to continue receiving instant messages when you are away from your personal computer. After registering your mobile phone number and activating IM Forwarding, instant messages (IMs) sent to your screen name will be automatically forwarded to your mobile phone as text messages.

If your phone and wireless carrier support the two-way IM Forwarding service, you can reply to any IM forwarded to your phone. Just use your phone's reply function to respond to the instant message (IM). However, you cannot initiate any new instant messages unless you have the AOL® Instant Messenger™ service installed on your phone.

When IM Forwarding is activated, or you are using Full Service Mobile IM, your screen name appears as online on your friends' Buddy List windows, and a mobile device icon is displayed next to your name to indicate that you are using a mobile phone. The mobile device icon also indicates whether you are using one-way or two-way text messaging.

Note: To see the Mobile Device icon requires AIM® version 4.8.2646 or higher, or AOL® version 7.0 or later.

Your wireless service provider may charge you for text messages you send or receive. Please consult your wireless service provider regarding their pricing plans.

To learn how you can send and receive Instant Messages using the AIM service on your mobile phone, follow the instructions in the online help article entitled Getting Familiar With IM Forwarding.
