| Sometimes, you may not be able to send e-mails using the AOL® software. Given below are the solutions to resolve the issue. After trying the first solution, check whether you can send e-mails. If you are still unable to send e-mails, continue trying the suggested solutions until the problem is resolved.

Information you need
You will need to know the version of the Microsoft® Windows® operating system installed on your computer. You can find this information by following the instructions given in the online help article How do I determine the version of Windows I have.
Solutions
Restart your computer
To reboot your computer 1. Shut down the computer:
- If you are using Windows Vista®, click Start, click the arrow next to Lock this computer, and then click Restart.

- If you are using Windows XP Home Edition, click Start, and then click Turn Off Computer. Click Restart.

- If you are using Windows XP Pro/2000, click Start, and then click Shut Down. Click the What do you want the computer to do? drop-down menu to open it, select Restart, and then click OK.

- If you are using Windows Me/98, click Start, and then click Shut Down. Select Restart, and then click OK.

Verify the Mail Controls settings
Your Mail Controls settings may block you from sending or receiving e-mails, especially e-mails with pictures and file attachments. To verify your Mail Controls, follow the instructions given in the online help article Verify that Mail Controls do not block e-mail or e-mail attachments.
Run Quick Restore
The Quick Restore feature resets the AOL software to the default state and repairs several common errors in the program.
Clear AOL Artwork Database
After an extended period of time, the amount of stored artwork on your computer can reduce computer efficiency. You can delete the stored artwork by resetting the amount of space AOL uses to store online art.

Delete all connection locations and redetect the modem
By deleting the connection locations and connectivity files, you can remove incorrect AOL access phone numbers or modem settings. Enable only essential startup programs
Multiple programs may have been set to start automatically when a computer is turned on. These programs may cause the computer to slow down. Not all startup programs are essential for the proper functioning of a computer. Scan for virus

Uninstall and reinstall the AOL software
Uninstalling the AOL software removes all damaged and non-repairable files. Once the uninstallation is complete, reinstalling a new copy of the AOL software is quick and easy.
