Parental Controls Are Blocking the Internet and I Can't Access Internet Sites

Your child may not be able to access a Web site because that site has been blocked by an Adult screen name holder or deemed inappropriate for the child’s age group. Your child can make a request for access to the specific Web site. The Adult screen name holder may then view the request and allow/deny access to that particular Web site.

You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions, as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.

Check Parental Controls

Use the following steps to configure your parental control settings.

To configure the parental control settings:
1. Sign onto the AOL® Parental Controls using the Adult screen name at http://parentalcontrols.aol.com.
2. Click the screen name you wish to edit.
3. In the Settings page select the desired age category option by clicking it.

4. Next to Edit: click the appropriate link to customize your parental control settings.

5. Click the Save button, and then click the OK button.

Request Access for a Web Site

Screen names in the Kids Only, Young Teen and Mature Teen Category may request access to a specific Web site that has been blocked by the Adult screen name holder or deemed inappropriate for their age group.

To request access for a Web site:
1. On the Request for Permission window, click the Ask For Permission button.

2. You can type a note in the You can add a note to your request here: box, then click the Send button.

Grant or Deny Access to a Web Site

Adult screen name holders may grant or deny access to a particular Web site by going to AOL Keyword: Parental Controls or http://parentalcontrols.aol.com/.

To grant or deny access to a Web site:
1. Sign onto the AOL® Parental Controls using the Adult screen name at http://parentalcontrols.aol.com.
2. In the Manage Parental Controls window, under the Child's Access Requests section, click the View button.
3. Review the pending requests and decide whether to allow or deny your child's request.

Note: Click the Yes to All or No to All option to allow or deny a Web site, respectively.
