About AOL® Safety and Security Center Ratings
AOL Safety and Security Center ratings help you understand the status of your computer's protection from viruses, harmful programs, and intruders. These ratings are based exclusively on
your antivirus, firewall, and spyware protection settings.
The following list explains what the AOL Safety and Security
Center ratings mean: - Excellent: You have installed all the AOL Safety and Security Center products, AOL® Virus Protection, AOL® Firewall, and AOL® Spyware Protection, which are up-to-date and turned on. In addition, AOL® Virus Protection and AOL® Spyware Protection scans have been started successfully within the past 7 days and the Virus Shielding feature is on for AOL Virus Protection.
- Good: You have installed all the AOL Safety and
Security Center products, but may not have scanned for viruses within the past 7 days, or scanned for spyware
within the past 14 days, or your virus definitions file (used to identify viruses) may not be
up-to-date. If you have run a virus scan within the past 7
days and a scan for spyware within the past 14 days and your
rating has not improved, please check your online connection, then restart the computer.
Note: Please ensure that the program is able to connect to the Internet, to download the latest virus definitions file. The program can only protect from viruses that pre-date the last virus definitions file. - Fair: You have virus protection,
spyware protection, and a firewall; however, one or more of
these are not integrated with the AOL Safety and Security Center.
AOL Safety and Security Center is not designed to access any settings
or the current status of these other products. Please check
each program separately to verify settings. You should also ensure that you are not running more than one firewall since doing so may affect your computer's performance.
- Poor: The AOL Safety and Security
Center software could not find one or more of the following
key products: AOL Virus Protection, AOL Firewall, and AOL
Spyware Protection. If you have not installed one of these
products, take full advantage of the AOL Safety and Security
Center software by installing all AOL Safety and Security
Center products (AOL Virus Protection, AOL Firewall, and AOL
Spyware Protection). It may be possible that you have turned
off AOL Virus Protection, AOL Firewall, or AOL Spyware
Protection. If this is the case, we strongly encourage you to
turn on these safety and security products.
Note: Turning Virus Shielding on or off
