| When trying to use the AIM® service, you may receive the
message, "IM-0401 You cannot send E-mail from this Screen Name",
for any one of several reasons. After trying the first solution,
check to see if you can send e-mail. If you are still unable to
send e-mail, continue to the next suggested solution to fix the
issue.
You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this

Solutions
Get a free AIM e-mail account
This message may occur when you don't have a valid AOL® or AIM
email account and you try to send an e-mail to a screen name on
your Buddy List® by right-clicking the screen name and then by
clicking Send Mail. Getting a free AIM
e-mail account may resolve this issue.
To get a free AIM e-mail account:
1. Go to http://www.aim.com.
2. Click the Get a Screen Name link.
3. Choose the Create an Account option by clicking it, then click Continue.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Set up an AIM e-mail account with
an older AIM screen name
You can use an existing AIM screen name to set up an AIM E-mail
Account.
To set up an AIM e-mail account with an older AIM screen name:
1. Go to www.aim.com.
2. Click the Sign In link at the upper right.
3. Type in your existing AIM screen name and password, then click
the Sign In button.
