Configure remote access settings

1. Click Start. In the Search programs and files box, type services.msc, and then tap the Enter key on the keyboard.

Note:

  • If you are using Windows XP/2000/Me/98, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type services.msc, and then click OK.

  • If you are using Windows 8, press the windows button on your keyboard or move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen and then click the Start window that you see. To locate Run, press "R" on your keyboard. Type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. Right-click Telephony, and then click Properties.

3. On the General tab, click the Startup type drop-down menu to open it, and then select Manual.

4. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.

Notes:

  • If the service has already started, the Start button will be inactive and you will not be able to click it.
  • If you receive the message " Error 5: Access Denied," contact your computer vendor or Microsoft.
  • Do not close the Services window before proceeding to the next step.

5 . Right-click Remote Access Connection Manager, and then click Properties.

6. On the General tab, click the Startup type drop-down menu to open it, and then select Manual.

7. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.

  • If you receive the message " Error 5: Access Denied," contact your computer vendor or Microsoft.
  • Do not close the Services window before proceeding to the next step.

9. On the General tab, click the Startup type drop-down menu to open it, and then select Manual.

10. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.

11. Close the Services window.
