| The Buddy List® feature displays the screen names of your friends and family members who are online when you're online, allowing for easy, real-time communication using the AIM® software. You can add, remove, or rearrange people from your Buddy List at any time.

Add a BuddyTo add a buddy
1. Ensure you are signed in to the AIM software.
2. Click the Edit menu, and then click Add Buddy. You can also use the Ctrl key and the 'D' key for a shortcut.
3. Type the required information in the appropriate boxes:
- Nickname: How you would like your buddy's name to appear in the Buddy List.
Note: In order for you to view a user's nickname and not their screen name in your Buddy List, your setting must be set to see Friendly Names. In the AIM window, click the View menu, and then click Friendly Names to place a check mark next to it.
- Screen Name: Type your buddy's AOL®, AIM or AOL My eAddress screen name. You can also enter your buddy's ICQ® number or their e-mail address if it is registered with AIM.
- Mobile Number: Type your buddy's mobile device number and the area code. This allows you to send text messages to your buddy's mobile device.
Note: If you send text messages to your buddy's mobile device, they may be charged for this service by their mobile service provider.
- Buddy Group: Select the Buddy Group you wish to have the screen name added to.
- Account: If you have multiple linked accounts, select the account you wish to have your buddy added to.
4. Click Save.

Delete a Buddy
To delete a buddy
1. Click the screen name from the Buddy List window.
2. Click the Edit menu, and then click Delete Selection. You can also tap the Delete key from your keyboard as a shortcut.
3. When prompted for confirmation, click Yes to confirm the deletion or No to cancel.

Edit Buddy's Information
To edit a buddy's information
1. Click the screen name from the Buddy List window.
2. Click the Edit menu, and then click Edit Selection. You can also tap the F2 key as a shortcut.
3. The Edit Buddy screen will appear allowing you to edit the Nickname, Screen Name or Mobile Number.
4. Click Save.

Buddy List Groups
Your Buddy List is divided into groups, indicated by their bold print, to help organize your buddies into convenient categories. You can add or delete groups to customize the Buddy List to your needs.

The Recent Buddies Group
The Recent Buddies group provides a quick and easy reference for recent interactions you have had with other members of either the AOL® service or the AIM® service. You can change the setting to automatically add or not add new buddies to the Recent Buddies group.
Note: You can access the AIM Settings panel from the Edit menu on the Buddy List or by tapping the F7 key on your keyboard.
