Register for Instant Message(IM) Forwarding
To register your mobile device for IM Forwarding:
1. Go to http://mobile.aol.com.
2. Under My Mobile Dashboard, click the Select Carrier drop-down menu to open it, choose your carrier from the list, then click it.
3. Click the Select Manufacturer drop-down menu to open it, choose your manufacturer from the list, then click it.
4. Click the Go button.
5. Under Select your Phone Model, click the drop-down menu to open it, click the model that you are using, then click the Go button.
6. In the Enter your 10-digit Mobile Phone Number boxes, type your cell phone number.
7. Click the Register This Phone button.
8. Click the Confirm button.
Note: Ensure your phone is on. The confirmation number may take several minutes to be delivered to your phone. If you do not receive the confirmation number, IM Forwarding may not be available on your phone.
9. After you receive the confirmation number, in the Confirmation Code box, type the confirmation number you received.
10. Click the Confirm button.
11. Click the X button in the upper right to close the AOL Mobile: Mobile AIM window.

Activate IM Forwarding
IM Forwarding is activated when you sign off of the AOL® or AIM® service.
To activate IM forwarding using the AOL service:
1. Go to http://mobile.aol.com/aolproducts/imforwarding.
2. In the My Mobile Dashboard section, under Settings for this Phone, next to IM Forwarding, click the Edit button.
3. Under the IM Forwarding section, choose the IM Forwarding ON option by clicking it.
4. Under the Optional Settings (manage and control who can IM you) section, choose the setting of your choice by clicking it.
- Mobile Group: Screen names in my mobile device group
- Buddy List: Screen names on my buddy list
- Everyone: Everyone who has my screen name
5. Click the Save button to exit and save your options. Note: If you are using AOL® 9.0 Security Edition, click the Away Message drop-down button, then click Forward to Mobile then follow the steps 2 through 5.
To activate IM Forwarding using the most current version of the AIM® service:
1. Click the Edit menu, click Settings.
2. Enter your mobile phone number, then click the Send button.
3. In the My Mobile Dashboard section, under Settings for this Phone, next to IM Forwarding, click the Edit button.
4. Under the IM Forwarding section, choose the IM Forwarding ON option by clicking it.
5. Under the Optional Settings (manage and control who can IM you) section, choose the setting of your choice by clicking it.
6. Click the Save button to exit and save your options.
To activate IM Forwarding using the AIM® 5.9.x service:
1. Click the Setup button, then click Preferences.
2. Click the IM/Chat/Mobile category to highlight it, click the IM Forwarding button.
3. In the My Mobile Dashboard section, under Settings for this Phone, next to IM Forwarding, click the Edit button.
4. Under the IM Forwarding section, choose the IM Forwarding ON option by clicking it.
5. Under the Optional Settings (manage and control who can IM you) section, choose the setting of your choice by clicking it.
6. Click the Save button to exit and save your options.
When IM Forwarding is activated:
- Your screen name appears online to your buddies.
- IMs are forwarded to your mobile phone through your text messaging service.
- You can quickly respond to IMs if you are using a two-way text messaging service and phone, and your wireless carrier supports AOL's two-way Mobile IM capability.

Reply to IMs That Have Been Forwarded
Your mobile phone must have two-way text messaging (or SMS) from a carrier that allows two-way IM service for you to be able to respond to forwarded messages. Contact your wireless service provider for more information on your phone's text messaging capabilities and your wireless service plan.
Notes:
- Your wireless service provider may charge you for this and other text messages you send or receive. Please consult your wireless service provider regarding their pricing plans.

Turn Off IM Forwarding
You can turn IM Forwarding off at any time and stop receiving forwarded instant messages to your mobile phone.
To turn off IM forwarding using the AOL service:
1. Go to http://mobile.aol.com/aolproducts/imforwarding.
2. In the My Mobile Dashboard section, under Settings for this Phone, next to IM Forwarding, click the Edit button.
3. Under the IM Forwarding section, choose the IM Forwarding OFF option by clicking it.
4. Click the Save button to exit and save your options.
Note: If you are using AOL 9.0 Security Edition, click the Away Message button again and IM forwarding will automatically be turned off.
To turning off IM Forwarding using the AIM service:
1. Click the Edit menu, then click Manage Mobile Settings....
2. Enter your mobile phone number, then click the Send button.
3. In the My Mobile Dashboard section, under Settings for this Phone, next to IM Forwarding, click the Edit button.
4. Under the IM Forwarding section, choose the IM Forwarding OFF option by clicking it.
5. Click the Save button to exit and save your options.
To turn off IM Forwarding using the AIM® 5.9.x service:
1. From your Buddy List window, click the Setup button, then click Preferences.
2. Enter your mobile phone number, then click the Send button.
3. In the My Mobile Dashboard section, under Settings for this Phone, next to IM Forwarding, click the Edit button.
4. Under the IM Forwarding section, choose the IM Forwarding OFF option by clicking it.
5. Click the Save button to exit and save your options.

Stop All IMs From Coming to Your Cell Phone
To adjust your settings:
1. Go to http://aolmobile.com/stop.
2. In the Enter Mobile Number: box, type your 10-digit mobile number, then click the Next button.
Reduce Clutter in Your Mobile Inbox
To reduce the clutter in your Inbox when using IM Forwarding or Full Service Mobile IM Using Text Messaging, delete instant messages as you read them. This ensures you will have enough space on your phone for new messages or important messages you want to save.
