How do I transfer my favorites and Personal Filing Cabinet from an older AOL version to AOL Desktop?

Transferring your Favorites and Personal Filing Cabinet (PFC) from an older version of the AOL® software to the AOL® Desktop software is easy thanks to the Setup AOL Desktop feature.

Note: If the images are different from what you see on your computer, you do not have the latest version of AOL Desktop. Please install the latest version of AOL Desktop.

After upgrading, the first time you sign in to the AOL Desktop software, you will be prompted to import your favorites. If you are not prompted, on the Sign On screen, check the box next to Remember Me, and then sign in again.

The Setup AOL Desktop feature offers the following three options:

  • Import AOL Favorites: Lets you import the favorites saved on AOL.
  • Import AOL Mail (Personal Filing Cabinet): Lets you import your PFC from the last used version of the AOL software.
  • Set AOL Defaults: Lets you set AOL Desktop as your default Web browser and e-mail application.

To import your favorites and PFC using Setup AOL Desktop, do the following:
1. Click Setup Now. However, if you wish to set up at a later time, click Setup Later.

2. Click Continue to import your AOL Favorites. However, if you wish to import your favorites later, click Skip.

3. Click Continue to import your PFC from the last used version of the AOL software. However, if you wish to import your PFC later, click Skip.

4. Click Continue to set the AOL Desktop software as your default Web browser and e-mail application. If you do not wish to do so, uncheck the corresponding boxes, and then click Continue.

5. Click OK.

Note: To initiate the setup process again, click the Help menu, and then click Setup Wizard.
