AOL Desktop Seems Slow After Clearing Cache

AOL® Desktop temporarily stores images and text from World Wide Web pages on your hard drive in a storage area called cache. When the cache fills up, performance can slow down. Clearing your footprints clears the cache, which frees up hard drive space. Once regularly visited Web pages reload, your computer's performance improves and Web pages load faster. When the cache is cleared, all images, HTML files, and scripts will be re-downloaded the first time you revisit the Web page. This downloading can make it seem slower.

Turn On AOL® TopSpeed®

The AOL TopSpeed technology can help Web pages load faster. You can turn on the AOL TopSpeed manually or you can use the one-click fix.

To turn on TopSpeed on AOL® Desktop:
1. Launch the AOL Desktop software.
2. On the Browser window, click the Settings menu, and then click TopSpeed®.

Note: If the images are different from what you see on your computer, you do not have the latest version of AOL® Desktop software. Please install the latest version of AOL Desktop software.

3. Check the Use TopSpeed when available box.

4. Click Save.
