| This article will help you configure Mozilla® Thunderbird™ to read and send AOL® e-mail.
Setting up the Mozilla Thunderbird client to read and send AOL email is a two-step process. First, you need to add your email account in Thunderbird. Once the email account is created, you will need to configure your Thunderbird to send and receive your AOL email.

Add and configure your AOL or AIM e-mail account for Windows
Once you have installed the Thunderbird mail client, you will need to add your AOL or AIM e-mail account.
To add your AOL or AIM e-mail account for windows 1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird. 2. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings. 3. In the Account Settings window, click the Add Account button.
4. In the Account Wizard window, choose the Email account option by clicking it, then click the Next button.
 5. In the Your Name: box, type your name, in the Email Address: box type your e-mail address, then click the Next button.
 6. Click the IMAP option. In the Incoming Server: box, type imap.aol.com. In the Outgoing Server: box, type smtp.aol.com, then click the Next button.

Note: If you are an AIM® user, in the Incoming Server: box, type imap.aim.com. In the Outgoing Server: box, type smtp.aim.com, then click the Next button. 7. Ensure the Incoming User Name:, and the Outgoing User Name: boxes have your AOL or AIM screen name, then click the Next button.

8. Your e-mail address will be your account name by default. You can change this to any other name of your choice. E.g. Work Account, Home Account.
 9. Click the Next button. 10. Ensure that the information you have provided is correct, then click the Finish button.

11. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
12. In the left pane, click Copies & Folders.
 13. Ensure that the check box next to Place a copy in is selected.
 14. Click the Sent Folder on option, click the drop-down menu, and then click the AOL e-mail address that you created.
 15. Click OK.

To configure AOL or AIM e-mail account using windows 1. On the desktop, double-click the Mozilla Thunderbird icon. 2. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings. 3. In the left pane of the Account Settings window, click Server Settings.
 4. Under the Security Settings section, ensure the Use secure authentication box is not checked.
 5. In the left pane of the Account Settings window, click Outgoing Server (SMTP).
 6. In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings section, click to select the outgoing server, then click the Edit button.
 7. In the Description: box type AOL Account, in the Port: box type 587. Ensure the Use secure connection option is set to No.
 8. Click the OK button to close the Settings window. 9. Click the OK button to close the Account Settings window.
10. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
11. In the left pane, click Copies & Folders.
 12. Ensure that the check box next to Place a copy in is selected.
 13. Click the Sent Folder on option, click the drop-down menu, and then click the AOL e-mail address that you created.
 14. Click OK.

Add and configure your AOL or AIM e-mail account for Mac
To add your AOL or AIM e-mail account for Mac 1. On the desktop, double-click the Mozilla Thunderbird icon. 2. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
 3. In the Account Settings window, click the Add Account button.
 4. In the Account Wizard window, choose the Email account option by clicking it, then click the Next button.
 5. In the Your Name: box, type your name, in the Email Address: box type your e-mail address, then click the Next button.
 6. Click the IMAP option, in the Incoming Server: box, type imap.aol.com. In the Outgoing Server: box, type smtp.aol.com, then click the Next button.

Note: If you are an AIM user, in the Incoming Server: box, type imap.aim.com. In the Outgoing Server: box, type smtp.aim.com, then click the Next button. 7. Ensure the Incoming User Name:, and the Outgoing User Name: boxes have your AOL or AIM screen name, then click the Next button.
 8. Your e-mail address will be your account name by default. You can change this to any other name of your choice. E.g. Work Account, Home Account. 9. Click the Next button. 10. Ensure that the information you have provided is correct, then click the Finish button. 11. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings. 12. In the left pane, click Copies & Folders. 13. To configure AOL or AIM e-mail account using Mac 1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird. 2. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
 3. In the left pane of the Account Settings window, click Server Settings.
 4. Under the Security Settings section, ensure the Use secure authentication box is not checked.
 5. In the left pane of the Account Settings window, click Outgoing Server (SMTP).
 6. In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings section, click to select the outgoing server, then click the Edit button, 7. In the Description: box type AOL Account, in the Port: box type 587. Ensure the Use secure connection option is set to No.
 8. Click the OK button to close the Settings window. 9. Click the OK button to close the Account Settings window. 10. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings. 11.
