BURN-YOUR-OWN-AOL-CD

The AOL Installer CD is no longer available at a retail store, but you can still create your own if necessary. This article provides instructions on how to download the AOL setup files to your computer and then burn them onto a CD or save them on a flash drive.

Download the AOL Installer

The instructions to download and save the AOL Installer on your computer change, depending on the browser you use. Click the link corresponding to the browser you use to learn how to download the AOL Installer to your computer.

If you're using Internet Explorer:

1. Click the version of the AOL Desktop software that you wish to burn:

Note: The steps to create your own AOL Installer CD are dependent on the version of the AOL Desktop software that you download.

2. Click Save.

3. Select the destination where you would like to save the file, then click Save.

If you're using Firefox:

1. Click the version of the AOL Desktop software that you wish to burn.

2. Click Save File.

3. Right-click the AOL_Desktop_9.7.exe file, and click Open Containing Folder. Remember this folder.


Burn your own AOL Installer CD

If you are using Windows XP, you can use the built-in CD burning software to burn your own CD. If you are using an older version of Windows and don't have the CD burning software, skip to the next solution: save the AOL Installer on a flash drive.

To burn your own AOL Installer CD:

1. Browse to the location where you have saved the AOL Installer, and then right-click the AOL Desktop 9.7 file, select Send To, and then click DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:) (or the name of your CD burner).

Note: If you receive the Confirm Stream Loss window, ignore the message and click Yes.

2. Click the little balloon that appears on the Windows taskbar next to the clock, informing you that you have files to write on the CD, to open the list.

3. Insert a blank disc into your CD drive.

4. Click the Write these files to CD link to start the Windows CD burning wizard and follow the on-screen prompts.

Note: To install AOL Desktop 9.7 using the CD that you just created, insert the disc into your CD drive and go to Local Disk (C:) drive. Double-click the CD drive, double-click the AOL Desktop 9.7 file, then follow the on-screen prompts.


Save the AOL Installer to a flash drive

Browse to the location where you have saved the AOL Installer and right-click the AOL Desktop 9.7 file. Select Send to, and then click USB DISK (E:) (or the name of your flash drive).


Install the AOL Desktop software on your computer using the AOL Installer

Browse to the location where you have saved the AOL Installer, double-click the AOL Desktop 9.7 file, then follow the on-screen prompts.
