What are the system requirements to install AOL 9.0 VR Refresh?

• Windows 98 Second Edition or higher
• 32 MB RAM minimum (64 recommended)
• 205 MB (megabytes) of free hard drive space minimum, depending on your Windows® operating system, and an additional 90 MB if you need to install Internet Explorer® 6.0
• Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
• 166 MHz Pentium® class processor or higher
• VGA, SVGA or better display
• 800x600 screen resolution or higher (1024x768 for optimal viewing)
• 28.8 Kbps or faster modem or other means of Internet connection

Note: If you are using Windows XP or earlier versions of Windows® Operating Systems (OS), you do not need to update your AOL software to AOL 9.0 VR Refresh.

What is the cost to upgrade to AOL 9.0 VR Refresh?

Its absolutely FREE. But if you are on an hourly plan, the time you spend downloading does not count as your connect time. The communication surcharges, if any will apply to you normally.

You can use computer while downloading AOL 9.0 VR Refresh, but your computer applications like email and Web browsers, may run slowly while downloading. Once the download is complete, the installation process will begin automatically which will close your current AOL program and will ask you to restart your computer. Hence we recommend you to close all other programs before you begin the installation.

AOL members should take only a few minutes when using a DSL or cable Internet connection with no special requirements. If using a 56 KBPS dial-up connection, it will take any where between 1-3 hours to download. Other factors such as processor speed of your computer and if you are running other applications while downloading will also play a role. The green status bar will show you the progress of your download. AOL 9.0 VR Refresh is designed for faster downloading.

To access all the features of AOL 9.0 VR Refresh, you must download and install the software on your computer. The programs that will be installed are:

• AOL 9.0 VR refresh
• Adobe® Flash® 9.0
• ViewPoint® Media Player

• A shortcut and tray icon for 9.0 VR Refresh will be added to your desktop for quick access to AOL
• If you use AOL Parental Controls, the controls will be updated to give you the latest protections
• Occasional software updates which will automatically get installed to ensure quality of performance.

Note: The AOL Software End User License Agreement governs the use of AOL 9.0 VR Refresh, Adobe Flash, and ViewPoint Media Player.

AOL 9.0 VR Refresh is accessible and optimized for use with the JAWS screen-reader. For users on Windows XP, there is no need to upgrade to 9.0 VR Refresh as of now, as AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE provides a comparable experience. AOL is working with the makers of JAWS to ensure that 9.0 VR Refresh will work with the Windows Vista compatible version of JAWS when it is released.

You will need to have an AOL screen name to use AOL 9.0 VR Refresh, if you don't have a Screen Name create one after you agree to the AOL Member Terms of Service.

How do I determine the version of AOL software I have?

The name and version of the AOL software appears on the blue Title bar above the AOL Toolbar. You can also find the version by clicking Help menu in the AOL Toolbar, then by clicking About AOL.

What if I am unable to install the AOL 9.0 VR Refresh software?

The AOL 9.0 VR Refresh Setup should start automatically once you've downloaded the program. If it doesn't start or if you need to find the 9.0 Setup program for some other reason, follow the instructions below:

If you are using Windows 98 or Windows Me:

• On your desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
• Double-click your local hard drive (usually named C:\).
• Double-click the AOL Downloads folder.
• Double-click the aolsetup90 folder.
• Double-click setup90.exe to start the AOL 9.0 VR Refresh Setup program.

If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP:

• On your desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.

  Note: If using Windows XP, click the Start button, then click My Computer.

• Double-click on your local hard drive (usually named C:\ ).
• Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.
• Double-click the All Users folder.

What are Keywords?

Keywords are shortcuts to online areas in AOL. To access a keyword using AOL 9.0 VR Refresh, click the Keyword menu on your AOL Toolbar, then select Go to Keyword to open the keyword window. Once the keyword window appears, type in your keyword, and click Go button.

How do I use the Mail Search box?

The Mail Search box in AOL 9.0 VR Refresh is a new handy feature that lets you search the Web right from the convenience of your AOL Mailbox. Just type the desired search term or phrase in Search The Web box, located in the top of your Mailbox, then click the Search button. Your search results will be displayed in a new browser window.

Notes:

• The Mail Search box feature will not be displayed if your Mail Away Message is turned on. To display this feature, click the Turn Off Message link to turn off your Mail Away Message.
• If you are signed off from AOL 9.0 VR Refresh and are attempting to use the Mail Search box feature, you will be prompted to sign in.
