How do I change my password?

Your password should be easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess. If your password is easy to guess, your AOL® account is not secure. Please read our tips on how to create a secure password.

Important: You need to know your password and the answer to your Account Security Question (ASQ) to be able to sign on to your AOL account. If you do not remember your password or the answer to your ASQ, we recommend that you reset both of them before proceeding any further. You can change your password using either the AOL® software or an external browser. For instructions on how to change your password, click the appropriate link below:

To change your password using the AOL software

Note: You need to be signed on the AOL software to perform the steps given below.

1. Go to AOL® Keyword: Password.

Note: This keyword cannot be accessed within AOL® Desktop. However, if you are using AOL Desktop, you can change your password using an external browser.

2. Type the answer to your ASQ, and then click Continue.
3. In the New Password box, type your new password.

4. In the Confirm Password box, re-type the new password.

5. Click Save. A message confirming that your password has been changed is displayed.

To change your password using an external browser
1. Go to https://bill.aol.com/.
2. Sign on using the screen name for which you wish to reset the password.
3. Type the answer to your ASQ, and then click Continue.
4. Under Password, click Change Password.

5. In the New Password box, type your new password.

6. In the Confirm Password box, re-type the new password.

7. Click Save. A message confirming that your password has been changed is displayed.
