Why can’t I see the FAQ links when trying to change or cancel my AOL plans?

If you do not see the FAQ links for changing, or cancelling your Username, it is because the current Username being used was created under a previous tracking system. It is currently not possible to cancel these types of Usernames or use them to sign up for other AOL services. We apologize for this inconvenience, and suggest the following to meet your current needs:

1. To sign up for a new paid AOL plan you will need to create a new AOL identity. To do so, please go to: Creating an AOL account online and follow the instructions.

2. Once you have created your new identity, you will be able to sign up for Lifestore.

You can also change or modify your current account information status. For your convenience, you can continue to check your email and use AIM with your current Username.

How do I close an AOL account of a family member who has passed away?

We're very sorry for your loss.

In the unfortunate event of a death of the billing contact for an AOL account, ownership can easily be transferred to another AOL Username already listed under the account.

The billing contact's name appears on the credit card used for the AOL account. You can change the payment information online through My Account if you have the deceased master Username, Password and Account Security Question. If you don't know this information, please click the Contact AOL Customer Service link to the right of this page for more information on contacting AOL Customer Support Team.

Note: If you don't own a Username on the AOL account and would like to make changes to the account, please contact one of our AOL Customer Support Team Representatives at 1-800-827-6364.

How do I change or cancel my AOL account for paid plans?

You can manage your AOL plan from My Account. Here you can select a new plan, review your current plan, or cancel your billing. Review the following information to make sure that you understand the changes in service if you choose to modify or cancel your plan.

AOL plans come with a variety of great features designed to keep you safe and secure. If you choose to cancel your AOL account, you will no longer have access to these services.

Keep the following in mind before canceling your AOL account:

  • You must cancel your billing and convert to a free AOL account in order to cancel your paid account.
  • If you cancel your account in the middle of your billing cycle, you’ll have access to the service until the end of the cycle because payments are made a month in advance. Once the billing cycle is over, though, you will no longer have access to your AOL account, unless you reactivate within 90 days of cancellation.
  • You will need your password to sign on to your AOL account.
  • You will also need the answer to your Account Security Question.
  • If you subscribe to any AOL Premium Service, you must cancel your subscriptions to those services before canceling your AOL account, including any subscriptions for the General Username (Master or Designated Master will have the ability to cancel a General Username’s subscription). However, cancel email will only go to the General Username who originally purchased the service.
  • AOL reserves the right to charge and collect any fees, surcharges or costs incurred before your cancellation takes effect.
  • If you want to cancel an account on behalf of a deceased AOL member, you can refer to our FAQ section on How do I close an AOL account of a family member who has passed away?
  • You can also cancel your account by calling the phone number listed on your credit card statement.
