Store your AOL or AIM password

If having to enter your password every time you want to sign in to AOL is getting old, you can store your password on the AOL or AIM software so you don't need to type it in each time you sign on. You can also set up your AOL Desktop Software to ask for a password whenever anyone tries to access your Personal Filing Cabinet.

Keep in mind, if you store your password on your computer, anyone who has access to your computer can sign in with your Username. Also, whenever you change your password, remember to update your stored password, too. You can use your new password to sign in to both the AOL and AIM service.

Store your password using AOL Keyword

The AOL Sign On screen should display your Username. You can't store your password if you sign on as a guest user.

Note: If you are using AOL Desktop v10.1 or AIM, skip to Using the sign on screen.

1. Sign on to the AOL Desktop Software with the Username whose password you wish to store.

2. Go to the AOL Keyword: Store Password.

Note: This keyword can be accessed only within the AOL Desktop Software.

3. In the Password box, type your password and then select the check box under Sign-On.

Note: To protect your Personal Filing Cabinet:

  • If you are using AOL 8.0 Plus or higher, select the check box under Mail Saved on my PC.
  • If you are using AOL 8.0 or lower, select the Filing Cabinet check box.

4. Click Save.
