How long are emails stored in my Classic AOL Mail inbox?

Important:

Please remember that your emails will be permanently deleted and cannot be retrieved if your account is inactive. To keep your account active, you need to sign on a Service with your username at least once every 90 days.

The number of days that an email stays in your Classic AOL Mail inbox depends on the type of mailbox you use and the folder in which you saved the message. Your mailbox can be one of two types: Unified Inbox or New/Old.

Now that you know which style of mailbox you use, the table below will help you determine if there's an expiration date for your emails.

Unified Inbox:

Folder Limits and Timelines
Inbox Emails will remain in your Inbox folder until you delete them (even the emails that you've read).
Sent Sent emails will remain in your Sent folder until you delete them.
Spam Emails in your Spam folder will be automatically deleted after 5 days.
Recently Deleted or Trash Emails that you delete will remain in your Recently Deleted or Trash folder for up to 7 days.
Saved Folders
  • Emails saved to any of the subfolders in your Saved on AOL, Saved on My PC, or My Folders mail folder will never be deleted until you delete them.
  • The number of emails that can be saved to the Saved on My PC folder and its subfolders is only limited by the space available on your hard disk.
  • Your Saved on AOL or My Folders mail folder can hold up to 5000 saved emails, and you can create up to 252 personal folders.

New/Old Inbox:

Folder Limits and Timelines
New
  • Your New folder can hold up to 1,000 new emails. To keep from reaching this limit, you can move these emails to your saved folders.
  • Unread emails will stay in your New folder until you delete them.
  • emails that you have read and marked Keep as New will remain in your New folder until you read or delete them.
Old
  • Your Old folder can hold up to 4000 old emails. To keep from reaching this limit, you can move these emails to your saved folders.
  • emails marked as Old will remain in your Old folder until you delete them.
  • emails that you have read will be marked as Old and will be moved to your Old folder.
Sent
  • Your Sent folder can hold up to 4000 sent emails. To keep from reaching this limit, you can move these emails to your saved folders.
  • emails in your Sent folder will automatically be deleted after 30 days.
Spam
  • Your Spam folder can hold up to 250 spam emails.
  • emails in your Spam folder will be automatically deleted after 5 days.
Recently Deleted
  • Your Recently Deleted folder can hold up to 550 deleted emails.
  • The emails you delete will remain in your Recently Deleted or Trash folder for anywhere between 24 hours and 7 days.
Saved Folders
  • Emails saved to any of the folders in your Saved on AOL, Saved on My PC, or My Folders folder will never be deleted until you delete them.
  • The number of emails that can be saved in the Saved on My PC folder and its subfolders is only limited by the space available on your hard disk.
  • Your Saved on AOL or My Folders mail folder can hold up to 5000 saved emails, and you can create up to 252 personal folders.
