How do I attach a file to an e-mail on AOL WebMail?

You can send a maximum of 16 MB of attachments per mail, either as a single file or as a group of smaller files.

Note: The recipient must have the software that is compatible with your files in order to open them. For example, if you send someone a WordPerfect® file, your recipient must have either the WordPerfect software or a word processing program capable of opening WordPerfect files. Also, ensure that the file is compatible with your recipient's computer; a Macintosh® machine may not be able to read some Windows® files and vice versa.

To attach a file to your e-mail
1. Sign on to AOL® WebMail by going to http://webmail.aol.com.
2. In the AOL Mail window, click Compose.

3. Compose your e-mail as you normally do.

4. Click the Choose files to attach icon.

5. Navigate to the file that you want to attach, and then click Open.

Notes:

  • To attach multiple files, repeat Steps 4 and 5.
  • Ensure that the file that you are sending is not open. To detach files, place your mouse over the file name, and then click the red X that appears.

6. Click Send.

Notes:

  • If you attach a single file to your e-mail, it will not be compressed automatically. The recipient will not need any special decompression software to use the file.
  • If you attach multiple files, they will be zipped (compressed) into a single file by the AOL® service before they are sent out. The recipient of your e-mail will need to unzip the files after downloading them. If the recipient is signed on to the AOL® or CompuServe® software, the files will be unzipped automatically after sign off or upon download. If the recipient of your mail uses a different Internet Service Provider (ISP), he/she may need special software to unzip or decompress the files before viewing or using them.
