Search Tips:- Choosing the right search terms is vital in finding the right information.
- Start with the obvious - if you are looking for information on installing AOL software, try installing AOL.
- AOL search is not case sensitive. Example - AOL and aol will return the same results.
- Use a complete idea or a sentence. The search works best when it has more focused information to work with.
- Focus your results: If you do not immediately find the results you're looking for, there are many ways through which you can narrow the results. In the right corner of the search page window, you will see the Focus your results section. You will find specific results to your query under sections like Common Issues, Features or Function, Activity, etc.
- Advanced search techniques and filters:
- You can search with terms (known as Boolean operators) or the plus (+) and minus (-) signs to include or exclude terms in your search. For example, searching with “OR” between words allows you to include either word in your search: “Anti-virus or Anti-spyware.” Likewise, you can use the following:
- And: “Anti-virus and Anti-spyware”
- Not: “Anti-virus not Anti-spyware”
- Or: “Anti-virus or Anti-spyware”
- Minus (-): Anti-virus – Firewall
- Plus (+): Anti-virus + McAfee
Features:- Spell check: The search engine will suggest corrections for the words that may have been misspelled.
- Idea match: Search results are based on concepts or ideas, not just on exact word matches. For example- If your search term is send mail, your search results will include articles on how to send e-mails, how to format an e-mail before sending, problems sending e-mails etc...
