Why is AOL Journals shutting down?

It's never an easy decision to shut down a feature, especially one like AOL Journals that some members used for a long time. But we had to look carefully at all of AOL's features to make sure we are offering as much value to our members as possible. With many good blogging sites now available on the Web, Journals weren't as widely used as they once were. So we've focused more on popular features like e-mail, AIM®, AOL® Radio and AOL® Desktop.

Why wasn't I informed that AOL Journals is shutting down?

I"m sorry if you weren't aware that AOL Journals had closed. AOL sent an e-mail on Sept. 30 to all AOL Journals users, alerting them that AOL Journals would close on Oct. 31, 2008. A follow up e-mail was sent on Oct. 8, and a notice was also prominently displayed on the AOL® People Connection Web site.

What am I supposed to do now, if my files are no longer available?

I'm really sorry about this, but unfortunately there is nothing we can do now. The files are no longer retrievable.

Is AOL offering a replacement for AOL Journals?

Yes, we've partnered with Blogger.com to provide you an easy way to transfer your Journal to their service. Blogger is a free service from Google that supports most of the features you've come to expect from AOL Journals. If you transferred your Journals to Blogger before Oct. 31, 2008, you can simply go to Blogger.com to access your new blog on their site. If you did not take steps to transfer your Journal before Oct. 31, you can no longer transfer your Journals to Blogger. If you want to make a new blog from scratch, you can always do so at Blogger.com.
