Making the Library folder visible when trashing software preferences or uninstalling AOL Desktop for MAC

When troubleshooting AOL Desktop for MAC issues, you may sometimes have to trash software preferences or uninstall the AOL Desktop Software.

Trashing software preferences will restore the application to its default settings.For instructions on how to trash the software preferences, please refer to our help article Trash software preferences.

Uninstalling the AOL Desktop Software removes all damaged and non-repairable files. Once the uninstallation is complete, reinstalling a new copy of the AOL Desktop Software is quick and easy. Check out the online help article Install or uninstall the AOL Desktop for Mac to uninstall and reinstall the AOL Desktop Software.

Note: While going through the troubleshooting steps outlined in both help articles, Trash software preferences and Install or uninstall the AOL Desktop for Mac, if using OS X Lion, your Library folder will be hidden. To make the folder visible you will need to do the following:

 

1. Click on the Finder icon located within your dock.

 

2. On the left side of the screen, click on Applications. Scroll through the applications and double-click Utilities.

 

3. Within the Utilities screen, open Terminal.

 

4. In the Terminal box, type the commnd: chflags nohidden ~/Library/

 

Exit out of your screen and enjoy your now visible Library folder.
