How do I reconfigure an AOL Mail account on Microsoft Outlook 2000?

If you're facing any issues with the AOL Mail account that you have created on Microsoft Outlook 2000, you can delete the account and reconfigure it.

To reconfigure your AOL Mail account in Microsoft Outlook 2000:

1. Launch Microsoft Outlook.

2. Click Tools, and then click Accounts.

3. Click the Mail tab, select the email account that you are having issues with, and then click Remove.

4. Click Add, and then click Mail.

5. In the Display name box, type your name as you would like it to appear in your outgoing email, and then click Next.

6. In the E-mail address box, enter your full email address, for example, Michealmarvel@aol.com or GabyGrace@aim.com, and then click Next.

7. Click the My incoming mail server is a drop-down menu, and then choose IMAP or POP3.

Note: AOL Mail supports both POP3 and IMAP, but we recommend that you use IMAP. To learn more about the differences between POP3 and IMAP, please visit our help article What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

8. In the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server box, type

  • imap.aol.com for IMAP
  • pop.aol.com for POP3

9. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type smtp.aol.com, and then click Next.

10. In the Account name box, type your AOL or AIM email address.

11. In the Password box, type your AOL or AIM password, and then click Next.

Note: If you want Outlook 2000 to save your AOL or AIM password, select the check box next to Remember password.

12. Select the Connect using my local area network (LAN) option, and then click Next.

13. Click Finish.

Note: Outlook will build the Outlook Toolbar, and then open up your Inbox.

14. Click Tools, and then click Accounts.

15. Click the Mail tab, select the account that you have created, and then click Properties.

16. Click the Servers tab, select the check box next to My server requires authentication, and then click Settings.

17. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server option, and then click OK

18. Click the Advanced tab.

19. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, type 587, and then click OK

20. Click Close.

You have now successfully reconfigured Microsoft Outlook 2000 to read and send your AOL Mail.
