How do I set up an AOL or AIM account in Thunderbird for Mac?

1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird.

2. Under Accounts, click Create a new account.

3. In the Mail Account Setup window, enter the following details:

• Your first and last name as you want it to appear to others in the Your name box
• Your AOL email address in the Email address box (for example michealmarvel@aol.com, or michealmarvel@aim.com)

• Your AOL password in the Password box

• Select the check box next to Remember password

• Click Continue. The Mail Account Setup window extends to show additional settings.

4. You can keep the default IMAP server settings or opt for the POP server.

Tip: AOL Mail supports both POP3 and IMAP. The difference between POP3 and IMAP is that POP3 downloads messages and stores them on your computer's hard drive, while IMAP stores them on AOL servers. 5. If you wish to keep the default settings (IMAP server settings), click Create Account.

Note: If you want to configure the POP server settings, perform the following steps:

• Click Edit, and then choose POP from the drop down menu next to the Incoming box.

  

• Click Re-test configuration.

  

• Click Create Account.

  

8. Your AOL email folder ( michealmarvel@aol.com, or michealmarvel@aim.com) is displayed under Local Folders.

You have now created your AOL or AIM account on Thunderbird for Mac.
