How do I set up Mozilla Thunderbird to read and send AOL Mail?

Did you know you can set up Mozilla Thunderbird to send and receive your AOL Mail?

Here's how:

1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird.

2. Under Accounts, click Create a new account.

3. In the Mail Account Setup window, enter the following details

  • Your first and last name, as you want it to appear to others, in the Your name box
  • Your AOL email address in the Email address box (e.g. michealmarvel@aol.com)
  • Your AOL password in the Password box

4. Click Continue. The Mail Account Setup window extends to show you additional settings.

5. You can keep the default IMAP server settings or opt for the POP server.

Tip: AOL Mail supports both POP3 and IMAP, but we recommend you use IMAP. To learn more about the differences between POP3 and IMAP, go to our online help article What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

6. Click Create Account.

7. Your AOL Mail folder (michealmarvel@aol.com) is displayed under Local Folders. In the Email section, you can click Read messages to read your AOL Mail or Write a new message to send out a new email.
