The AOL Toolbar

The AOL toolbar in AOL Desktop 9.7 contains a set of icons that give you easy access to several features. The following options are available on the AOL toolbar:

The Read, Write, IM, Lifestream, News, Settings, Music, and Finance icons are located on the left side of the AOL toolbar. These are permanent icons and cannot be changed. The right side of the AOL toolbar is called the toolbar carousel. This can be customized to display icons of your choice.

Read icon: The Read icon, located on the left corner, is the first icon on the AOL toolbar. Clicking the Read icon gives you access to your mailbox.

Write icon: The Write icon is located to the right of the Read icon on your AOL toolbar. Clicking the Write icon displays the Write Mail window, which allows you to create and send an email.

IM icon: The IM icon is located to the right of the Write icon on your AOL toolbar. You can start an instant message conversation just by clicking the IM icon.

Lifestream icon: The Lifestream icon will open the AOL Lifestream page. Lifestream allows you to connect various social media services to your AOL account, allowing you to keep track of status updates, news feeds, and comings and goings of your friends, all in one place. For more information, please see our help article What is Lifestream?

News icon: The News icon is located to the right of the Lifestream icon on your AOL toolbar. Click the News icon to get quick access to Huffington Post news. If you hover over the News icon, a drop-down will display the highlights of the day. You can then click any of the individual stories listed to go straight to the news story.

Settings icon: The Settings icon is located to the right of the News icon on your AOL toolbar. Using the Settings icon, you can review and customize various features of the AOL service such as your member profile, AOL home page, self-expressions (Buddy Icon, Buddy Wallpaper, Buddy Sounds, etc.), text and formatting features, as well as other AOL preferences.

Music icon: The Music icon is located to the right of the Settings icon on your AOL toolbar. This icon gives you access to the latest music and serves as an entertainment guide.

Finance icon: The Finance icon is located to the right of the Music icon on your AOL toolbar. Using the Finance icon, you can access DailyFinance, which links you to a wealth of financial information such as stock prices, insurance information, and business news.

The toolbar carousel: The area on the right of the AOL toolbar is known as the toolbar carousel. You can customize your AOL experience by adding your favorite places to the toolbar carousel. This provides easy access to up to 18 favorite places, taken from AOL or anywhere else on the Web. To add a favorite place to the toolbar carousel, simply click the heart icon on the upper right of the desired webpage, and then click Add to Toolbar. You can select an icon for each webpage on your carousel and edit the icon at any time. The icons on the toolbar carousel can be removed or replaced whenever you want; simply right-click the icon, and then click Remove from Toolbar.
