How do I install AOL Toolbar?

Please ensure that your computer meets the system requirements for AOL Toolbar before installing the software. If you install the AOL Toolbar software on a computer that doesn't meet the system requirements, you may experience problems with either the software or the computer.

To install AOL Toolbar, do the following:

  1. Go to toolbar.aol.com.
  2. Click Download Free Toolbar.

  3. In the AOL Toolbar Setup window, select the desired options, and then click Agree and Install.

  4. Save your work, and then click OK.

  5. Once the installation is complete, you will see a Congratulations message.

How do I uninstall AOL Toolbar?

There are three separate components to AOL Toolbar: AOL Toolbar, Download Updater, and Price Check by AOL. All three components need to be removed to complete the uninstallation of AOL Toolbar from your browser.

If you have both Firefox and Internet Explorer installed on your computer, please follow all of the instructions contained in this help article to fully remove AOL Toolbar from your system.

To uninstall AOL Toolbar from Internet Explorer, please select your operating system below:

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Windows 7

Uninstall the AOL Toolbar from Windows 7:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.

  3. Double-click AOL Toolbar.

  4. Click Uninstall.

  5. Click Close.

Uninstall Download Updater from Windows 7
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
  3. Double-click Download Updater (AOL Inc.).
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. Click Close.
Uninstall Price Check by AOL from Windows 7
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
  3. Double-click Price Check by AOL.
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. Click Close.

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Windows Vista

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Windows Vista:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Click the Programs icon.
  3. Note: If Control Panel is set to Classic View, skip this step.

  4. Double-click the Programs and Features icon.

  5. Select AOL Toolbar, and then click the Uninstall/Change button.

  6. If prompted, click Continue on the User Account Control window.

  7. When the AOL Toolbar Uninstall window appears, click the Uninstall button.

  8. Once the uninstallation is complete, click Close.

  9. Once the uninstallation is complete, you will see the message "The AOL Toolbar has been removed from your computer." Click Close.
  10. Note: If prompted, click Yes on the Windows Internet Explorer window.

Uninstall Download Updater
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the Programs icon.
  3. Note: If Control Panel is set to Classic View, skip this step.

  4. Double-click the Programsand Features icon.
  5. Select Download Updater, and then click the Uninstall/Change button.
  6. If prompted, click Continue on the User Account Control window.
  7. When the Download Updater Uninstall window appears, click the Uninstall button.
  8. Click Close.
Uninstall Price Check by AOL
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the Programs icon.
  3. Note: If Control Panel is set to Classic View, skip this step.

  4. Double-click the Programsand Features icon.
  5. Select Price Check by AOL, and then click the Uninstall/Change button.
  6. If prompted, click Continue on the User Account Control window.
  7. When the Download Updater Uninstall window appears, click the Uninstall button.
  8. Click Close.

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Windows XP/2000

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Windows XP/2000:
  1. Open the Windows Control Panel. If you are using Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel. If you are using Windows 2000, click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs or Add/Remove Programs icon.

  3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click AOL Toolbar to highlight it, and then click the Change/Remove button.

  4. When the AOL Toolbar Uninstall window appears, click the Uninstall button.

  5. Once the uninstallation is complete, click Close.

  6. Once the uninstallation is complete, you will see the message "The AOL Toolbar has been removed from your computer." Click Close.

    Note: If prompted, click Yes on the Windows Internet Explorer window.

Uninstall Download Updater
  1. Open the Windows Control Panel. If you are using Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel. If you are using Windows 2000, click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs or Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Download Updater to highlight it, and then click the Change/Remove button.
  4. When the Download Updater Uninstall window appears, click the Uninstall button.
  5. Once the uninstallation is complete, click Close.
Uninstall Price Check by AOL
  1. Open the Windows Control Panel. If you are using Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel. If you are using Windows 2000, click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs or Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Price Check by AOL to highlight it, and then click the Change/Remove button.
  4. When the Download Updater Uninstall window appears, click the Uninstall button.
  5. Once the uninstallation is complete, click Close.

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Firefox

Uninstall AOL Toolbar from Firefox:
  1. Open Firefox.
  2. On the AOL Toolbar, click Edit.

  3. Scroll down to More and click Uninstall.

  4. Click the Extensions tab.

  5. Under AOL Toolbar, click Remove.

  6. Click Remove Toolbar.

  7. Under Price Check by AOL, click Remove.
  8. Restart Firefox to complete the uninstallation.

What are the minimum system requirements for AOL Toolbar?

The following are the minimum system requirements for installing and running AOL Toolbar:

How do I add buttons to my AOL toolbar?

To add buttons to your AOL Toolbar from Internet Explorer:
  1. Click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Add More Buttons

  3. 3. From the Toolbar Button Gallery, click the buttons you'd like to add.

To add buttons to your AOL Toolbar from Firefox:
  1. Click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Toolbar Options.

  3. Click the Toolbar Buttons tab.

  4. Click Add More Buttons.
  5. Click the buttons you'd like to add.

Can I change the appearance of buttons on my AOL toolbar?

You decide whether you want to see text only, icons only, or text and icons on your AOL Toolbar. You can select one of these options by right-clicking on the button and making your selection from the drop-down menu.

Can I customize the types of searches from my AOL Toolbar?

Yes, you can. Once you've selected the type of search you want to conduct: web pages, images or videos.

  1. Type what you're searching for into the Toolbar search box.
  2. Click the small down arrow next to the magnifying glass.
  3. Select the type of search you'd like to conduct.

  4. Click SEARCH

How do I manually check for updates on AOL Toolbar?

The AOL Toolbar 5 software is configured to automatically check for updates. If you have turned that feature off, you can manually check for updates.

When you choose to manually update the AOL Toolbar 5 software, it will first check if any updates are available.

To check for AOL Toolbar 5 updates:

  1. On the right side of the AOL Toolbar, click the Settings icon, select Help, and then click Check for Updates.

  2. If an update is available, follow the onscreen prompts to download and install it. Otherwise, click the OK button.

Can I enable/disable software on the AOL Toolbar?

You can turn off the AOL Toolbar software temporarily without uninstalling it. You can turn it back on again at any time from your browser.

To turn off or on the AOL Toolbar on Internet Explorer 6.0 or Mozilla Firefox:

  • In the browser window, click the View menu
  • Select Toolbars
  • Then click AOL Toolbar

To turn off or on the AOL Toolbar on Internet Explorer 7.0:

  • In the browser window, click the Tools menu
  • Select Toolbars
  • Then click AOL Toolbar

Note:A check mark next to AOL Toolbar in the Toolbars menu indicates that it is currently turned on.

How can I view my email from the AOL Toolbar?

The AOL Toolbar includes an icon to provide you with quick access to your AOL, AIM, or My eAddress email. If you are already logged into your email account, clicking the Mail button will take you straight to your mailbox.

To view your email:

  1. In the browser window, on the AOL Toolbar, click the Mail button.

  2. In the Username or Email box, type your Username and password, and then click Sign In.

How do I clear my AOL Toolbar search history?

A history of your searches on the Web is kept on your computer. You can clear this information at any time. When you clear your search history, a new history will start with your next search.

To clear your search history using Internet Explorer:
  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser window, click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Toolbar Options

  3. Click the Privacy tab.

  4. Check Recent Searches by clicking on it.
  5. Click Clear All Checked Items.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click Save.
To clear your search history using Mozilla Firefox:
  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser window, click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Toolbar Options.

  3. Click the General tab.

  4. Click Clear search history.
  5. Click OK.

How do I turn OFF the search history on my AOL Toolbar?

To turn off your search history using Internet Explorer:
  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser window, click the Settings icon.

     

  2. Click Toolbar Options.

  3. Click the Search tab, and then clear the Use Search history box by clicking on it.

  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click Save.
To turn off your search history using Firefox:
  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser window, click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Toolbar Options.

  3. Click General.

  4. Clear the Save Search history box by clicking on it.
  5. Click OK.

How do I turn ON the search history on my AOL Toolbar?

Turning on your search history allows you to review your previous searches.

To turn your search history on using Internet Explorer:
  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser window, click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Toolbar Options.

  3. Click the Search tab, and then check the Use Search history box by clicking on it.

  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click Search.
To turn your search history on using Firefox:
  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser window, click the Settings icon.

  2. Click Toolbar Options.

  3. Click General.

  4. Check the Save Search history box by clicking on it.
  5. Click OK.
