How do I upgrade my McAfee Internet Security Suite - Special edition from AOL?

At AOL we continually strive to bring you the most up-to-date software to ensure your computer is secure and operating smoothly. That’s why we provide our members with McAfee upgrades and updates at no expense to you.

McAfee will automatically download and install upgrades and updates to your computer when connected to the internet. If McAfee is not automatically checking for updates, you will need to adjust your settings.

Click the version of McAfee you currently have installed on your computer. If you've installed McAfee after March 19, 2012 you are using the most current version of McAfee, McAfee Internet Security Suite - Special edition from AOL version 11.0.

 

The instructions given below are for McAfee Internet Security Suite - Special edition frol AOL version 10.5.

1. In the Windows taskbar, next to the clock, right-click the McAfee (M) icon, and then click Open McAfee SecurityCenter.

Note: Alternatively, you can click Start, select All Programs, select McAfee, and then click McAfee SecurityCenter.

Tip: If you're using Windows 7 and don't see the McAfee icon next to the clock, click the arrow next to the clock to reveal hidden icons. At any time, you can customize your Windows 7 System Tray.

2. On the McAfee SecurityCenter window, click the Automatic Updates: Current link.

3. On the right side of McAfee SecurityCenter window, click Check for updates.

Notes:

  • McAfee will check for updates, and download and install the updates.

  • Once the updates are installed, you'll receive the message Your programs are up to date, click Done.

The instructions given below are for McAfee Internet Security Suite - Special edition frol AOL version 9.15.

To manually update McAfee using the Programs menu:

1. Right-click the Windows taskbar, and then click Start Task Manager or Task Manager.

2. Click the Processes tab.

3. Right-click mcupdui.exe from the list, and then click End Process.

4. Click End Process.

Note: If you are using Windows XP, click Yes.

5. Close the Windows Task Manager window.

6. Click Start, click All Programs or Programs, click McAfee, and then click McAfee SecurityCenter.

7. If you are using Basic Menu, click the Update link, and then click Update.

Note: If you are using Advanced Menu, click Update.

8. When prompted, click OK.

Notes:

  • An animated icon indicating that updates are being installed appears on your Windows taskbar. Once the update is complete, the icon automatically disappears.

  • If there are no updates available, click OK.
