Maintain your computer using McAfee SecurityCenter - Special edition from AOL version 9.15

The instructions given below are for McAfee SecurityCenter - Special edition from AOL version 9.15.

Maintain your computer using McAfee SecurityCenter - Special edition from AOL allows you to optimize your computer's performance.

Use the McAfee QuickClean feature

McAfee QuickClean cleans your Internet cache, temporary files, registry keys, deleted email messages, temporary files, and other non-essential files that are taking up space on your computer.

To clean your computer

1. In the Windows taskbar, next to the clock, double-click the McAfee icon.

Note: If you don't see the McAfee icon next to the clock, click the arrow next to the clock to reveal the hidden icons.

2. In the left pane, click the Maintain Computer link.

3. In the McAfee QuickClean section, click the Start button.

4. In the McAfee QuickClean window, select the cleaning operations you want QuickClean to perform, and then click the Next button.

5. McAfee QuickClean scans your computer and identifies the files and folders that have to be cleaned. When finished click the Next button.

6. You will get the list of files that McAfee QuickClean will delete. Click the Next button to confirm.

7. Select the desired option, and then click the Next button.

Note: To delete the files permanently, choose the Yes, I want to securely erase my files using Shredder option.

8. If prompted, click the OK button, and then click the Finish button.


Use the Disk Defragment feature

Windows Disk Defragmenter is a Windows program designed to increase speed of your computer, by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations. The purpose is to optimize the time it takes to read and write files to/from the disk.

To run disk defragmenter using McAfee Security Center - Special edition from AOL

1. In the Windows taskbar, next to the clock, double-click the McAfee icon.

Note: If you don't see the McAfee icon next to the clock, click the arrow next to the clock to reveal the hidden icons.

2. In the left pane, click the Maintain Computer link.

3. In the Disk Defragmenter section, click the Analyze button.

4. In the Disk Defragmenter window, click the Defragment disk button.

5. Close all windows after the Disk Defragment is complete.


Use the Task Scheduler feature

Task Scheduler allows you to create Windows scheduled tasks that cleans your computer routinely.

To schedule a task using McAfee Security Center - Special edition from AOL

1. In the Windows taskbar, next to the clock, double-click the McAfee icon.

Note: If you don't see the McAfee icon next to the clock, click the arrow next to the clock to reveal the hidden icons.

2. In the left pane, click the Maintain Computer link.

3. In the Task Scheduler section, click the Start button.

4. Click the Select operation to schedule: drop-down menu, and then choose the desired option. In this article we have selected the McAfee QuickClean option.

5. In the Task name: box, type the task name, and then click the Create icon.

6. In the QuickClean Task window, select the cleaning operations you want QuickClean to perform, and then click the Next button.

7. Select the desired option, and then click the Schedule button.

Note: To delete the files permanently, choose the Yes, I want to securely erase my files using Shredder option.

8. In the new window, schedule the tasks as per your needs, click the Apply button, and then click the OK button.

9. In the Task Scheduler window, click the Finish button.
