Set up AOL account on another computer

To add your AOL screen name to another computer, install a new copy of the AOL software on the other computer.

Set up an AOL account on another computer with any AOL 9.0 Software

It is recommended that you exit all software applications that are running, including shareware and freeware, while you install the AOL software to avoid installation problems such as program conflicts and low system resources.

To set up an AOL account on another computer with any AOL 9.0 software:
1. If you have Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP on your computer, you need to log in to the computer as a user with administrator privileges in order to install the AOL software.
2. Start the AOL Setup program.

  • If you have an AOL CD, insert the CD in your CD drive. Setup should start automatically.

Note: The AOL CD runs a system check before installing any AOL client. Based on the results, the CD will then install the client that best matches the computer. In most cases, this is the most recent version of the AOL software on the CD.

  • You can download the software by scrolling to the bottom of the http://www.aol.com Web page and clicking the Download AOL link. Setup should start automatically after the download.

3. Click the Current Member click here button. You have the following options for installing the AOL software.

  • Upgrading to a new version of AOL on this computer: This option will install a new copy of the AOL software on your computer and will transfer your stored email, downloaded file information, and preferences to the new copy.
  • Adding your existing account to this computer: This option will install a new copy of the AOL software on your computer. It does not transfer any information from other copies of the AOL software on the computer.
  • Creating an additional AOL account on this computer: This option will install a new copy of the AOL software on your computer. It does not transfer any information from other copies of the AOL software on the computer.

4. Choose the Adding your existing account to this computer option by clicking it, then click the Next click here button.
5. If you chose to upgrade, the AOL installation program will search for the most recently used copy of the AOL software so it can copy your settings. To copy settings from the version it locates, click the Next button. To copy settings from a different version, click the Search for additional versions of the America Online software link, then click the Next button, then follow the onscreen instructions to choose the correct copy of the AOL software.
6. On the Select Destination Directory screen, click the Next click here button to install the AOL software in the standard location (for example, C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0).
7. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
