Solutions

Change your web pop-up control settings

If the web control settings are not set correctly, you may not be able to see what the pop-up blocker has blocked.

To change your web pop-up controls settings:

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Pop-Up Controls.

Note: This keyword can be accessed only within the AOL Desktop Software; however, the Keyword feature is not available in AOL Desktop v10.1.

2. Do one or more of the following:

  • To control pop-ups from websites you visit: Select Block all web pop-ups.
  • To specify a site from which you wish to allow pop-ups: Select Allow Web pop-ups from these sites, type the web address (e.g., www.aol.com), and then click Add. Repeat for each site you'd like to receive pop-ups from.

3. Click to place a check mark next to Allow market research surveys if you would like to allow the surveys in AOL Desktop. Clicking the box again will disable this feature.

4. Click to place a check mark next to Play a sound when a website pop-up has been blocked if you would like the AOL Desktop Software to play a sound alerting you when a website pop-up has been suppressed. Clicking the box again will disable this feature.

5. Click Save.

Notes:

  • The preferences you specify apply only to the Username with which you are signed in to AOL Desktop when you set them.
  • Because each webpage is different, AOL cannot guarantee that all pop-ups will be suppressed.
  • The preferences you choose apply only when you are using the AOL Desktop Software to visit websites. If you use a browser outside the AOL Desktop Software, AOL pop-up controls will not be in effect.
  • You can change your preferences or add websites to your allow list at any time by returning to AOL Keyword: Pop-Up Controls.
  • Note: This keyword can be accessed only within the AOL Desktop Software; however, the Keyword feature is not available in AOL Desktop v10.1.
