Add or edit contact information in my Address Book on AOL Desktop v10.1?

The multipurpose AOL Address Book, an integral feature of the AOL Desktop v10.1 and the AIM service, makes it easy to keep track of email addresses, phone numbers (home, work, cellular, fax, pager), mailing addresses (work and home), birthdays, anniversaries, even the home pages of all your friends!

How-To's

Manually add or edit contact information in your Address Book

You can add information to your AOL Address book manually, or edit information you already have in there.

Note: If the images are different from what you see on your computer, you do not have the latest version of AOL Desktop v10.1 software. Please install the latest version of AOL Desktop v10.1 software.

To manually add or edit contact information in your Address Book:

1. Launch AOL Desktop v10.1.

2. On the AOL toolbar, click the Mail icon, if prompted, enter your screen name and password, and then click the Sign In button.

3. On the upper right of the Mail window, click the Address Book button, and then do any one of the following:

  • To add a new contact, at the bottom of the Address Book window, click the New button.

  • To edit an existing contact, click the particular contact to select it, then click the Edit button.

4. Update the required information, and then click the Save button.

5.In the upper right of the Address Book window, click the X button to close it .

6. In the upper right of the Mail window, click the X button to close it.

Note: A new contact is automatically added to your Address Book when you send an email message to someone who's not in your Address Book. (You can change this setting by changing your Address Book settings).

Add contact names to your Address Book from emails you receive

You can add email addresses to your Address Book directly from the email you receive.

To add contact names to your Address Book from emails you receive:

1. Launch AOL Desktop v10.1.

2. On the AOL toolbar, click the Mail icon, if prompted, enter your screen name and password, and then click the Sign In button.

3. In the Mail window, double-click the email containing the email address(es) you want to add.
4. Below the Reply button, click the email address link for the email address you want to add, then click Add to Address Book.

5. Complete the contact information form, then click the Save button.

6. Repeat for each address you wish to add.

Set the automatically add address feature in the AOL Address Book

You can set AOL to automatically save the email addresses you send emails or instant messages. Addresses you have stored in your Address Book (or added to your Buddy List) are also automatically added.

To set the automatically add address feature:

1. Launch AOL Desktop v10.1.

2. On the AOL toolbar, click the Mail icon, if prompted, enter your screen name and password, and then click the Sign In button.

3. On the Mail window, click the Settings menu, and then click Writing and Sending.

4. In the Sending Mail section, click the When I send mail to people, automatically add their email addresses to my Address Book. box to place a check mark in it, and then click the Save button.

Note: If you don't want email addresses to be saved automatically, click the When I send mail to people, automatically add their email addresses to my Address Book. box to clear it.

5. In upper right of the Mail window, click the X button to close it.
