Set up AOL Desktop v10.1 to access all my other email accounts

You can consolidate other email along with your AOL email when you are using AOL® Desktop.

How to

Add additional email accounts

If you have other email addresses such as Gmail™, Verizon®, or any other account (either POP3 or IMAP), you can now read, write, and save emails from these addresses while using AOL Desktop v10.1.

To add additional mail accounts

1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Mail icon. Sign on if prompted.

2. Click Settings, and then click Mail Accounts.

3. Click Add.

4. In the Email box, type the email address you would like to add, and then click the Look Up button.

Notes:

  • This should automatically populate most of the required fields, for most of the domains. However, if your domain is not looked up automatically, you will have to enter all the information manually. Also, if your domain is not recognized, you will need to contact your email provider for the server and port settings for Incoming and Outgoing Mail.
  • If you have a MyEaddress domain and you get a message that says the domain was not recognized, click Yes.

5. In the Incoming Mail and Outgoing Mail sections, type the password for the email address that was just added, and then click Save.

Notes:

  • POP3 Accounts: If your username/password or the server/security/port information is incorrect, you will receive the error message name@domain.com: Failed to connect to POP3 server. Click OK, and then try again with the correct information.

  • IMAP Accounts: If your username/password or the server/security/port information is incorrect, you will receive the error message name@domain.com: Failed to connect to IMAP server. Click OK, and then try again with the correct information.

  • Only the IMAP Idle command is supported by AOL Desktop v10.1 at this time. If your service provider doesn't use the IMAP Idle command, you will receive the error message name@domain.com: IMAP host does not support IDLE command. Click OK to close the error message.

Tip: Some email providers require that you enable POP access on your account. You may receive the error message if the POP access is not enabled.

  • Gmail users: Go to Gmail settings and ensure POP Download is enabled.
  • Yahoo/MSN users: You may be required to pay for premium account services with Yahoo/MSN to use POP3 to access your account in AOL Desktop v10.1.

6. Click Save on the Mail Settings window.
