How do I reconfigure my AOL Mail account in Mac OS X?

Setting up your AOL Mail account on Mac OS X (Apple OS X Mail) is quick and easy.

To set up your AOL Mail on Mac OS X:

1. Click the Mail icon in the Dock.

Note: If you do not find the Mail icon in the Dock, navigate to the Applications folder, and then click the Dock icon.

2. Click Mail, and then click Preferences.

3. At the bottom of the window, click the minus sign.

4. Click Remove.

5. At the bottom of the window, click the plus sign.

6. To set up the mail account, enter the following information:

  • In the Full Name box, type your name as you would like it to appear on your outgoing email (for example, Micheal Marvel).
  • In the Email Address box, type your AOL Mail address (for example michealmarvel@aol.com).
  • In the Password: box, type your AOL password.
  • Select the box next to Automatically set up account.
  • Click Continue.

Note: The default incoming mail server is IMAP. AOL Mail supports both POP3 and IMAP, but we recommend you use IMAP. To know more about the differences between POP3 and IMAP, please visit our help article What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

7. Click the Advanced tab, clear the check box next to Use SSL, and then type 587.

8. Close all open windows. That's it!
